2011 head unit replacement

I'm looking to replace the stereo in my 11 taco. I'd like touchscreen, Android, my back up camera to integrate, gps, and steering wheel controls to work as well. I've been out of the stereo game for 20 years, but want to upgrade the system. nothing crazy, or fancy. Any suggestions?

I've been considering one for awhile, I don't have experience with it; my current single din is excellent at audio management so it's a hard decision.

 

Just installed this Boss Audio unit. I should have done it years ago. Makes the OEM speakers sound so much better. It has everything you wanted.

Yes, it definitely has Bluetooth. The model # BVCP9685A is the one I got. I may have posted the wrong pic.

 

I don't know why, but when I went thru the specs it said no blue tooth. All good though. If you say yours does, I believe you. Maybe it was a fluke. Anyhow, I saw that one in my earlier searches, and was eyeing it. No issues? Easy peasy setup? Did you install it yourself

 

Got it at Best Buy and it was free installation.
I love it. Obviously have my phone synched, so I have access to all my apps, google maps, Spotify, etc.

 

Found it! It wasn't just the sticky weed!

 

That is the install kit. Bluetooth is built into the head unit. If you buy from crutchfield they have an option to pre-make the harness for you which will make the install a breeze. Taco tunes on YouTube has some great install videos for a step by step.

 

The backup camera can be made to display on the head unit screen while still displaying in the mirror.

 

Cool option, but the mirror screen drives me crazy. I don't like it at all. Gonna leave it off. Is the "home screen" customizable? I.e. can I put pictures on a home screen and lock screen like our phones?

 

Typically yes. Most head unit’s allow that.

I would recommend adding the backup camera to the head unit, makes it an actual useable feature.

 

The one I bought allows for connection to your backup camera, it will continue to display in your RV mirror and show on the head unit screen.
I'm not sure what you're looking to spend, but I eas on the Best Buy site and they have several Android units for less than $400. Anything over $200 qualifies for free installation.

 

Thanks for all the help. I'm looking to spend no more than 4-5 hundred. I'll install myself. I plan to black out the whole area. Vents, HVAC controls, stereo surround. I'm just looking for a more modern setup, and more usable back up camera. The styling of the old stereo is atrocious, to say the least. I don't wanna break the bank, and nothing fancy. Just useable

 

Shows my age huh! It's been 20 years since I've done a stereo. I see you have an 11 dc trd sport. What is the "sport" package. I keep reading about the "sport" headlights in particular

 

im an Alpine guy their Halo Decks are what id go with. im only on an ILX 259 now its been great carplay has been a game changer. the rear camera has worked well with it. the only thing i wish i did instead was get the next model up that had the ability to use the idatalink data to push data to the console. if and when this ever goes ill go with an 11" screen

 

does Best Buy purchase include everything needed or did you have to purchase install kit?. any added costs when they installed it? thanks

 

Crutchfield, they have everything your looking for. Including the surround!

 

Best Buy has all the connections you need. Steering wheel controls and backup camera. I also purchased the surround from them which is an excellent match.
