New to the forum. I've searched the topic on here but I'm not mechanically inclined so here goes.

I got 2010 Tacoma with 188,450 miles on it. I noticed it slipped a week ago but it's been riding fine since. I took it to the dealership to get some brakes and mentioned it to them. They came back with the P0776 code "Pressure Control Solenoid B Performance/Stuck Off" and told me I needed a new transmission and Rear Main Seal (Total $5600). I took it home bought a blue driver off Amazon and it came up with the same code P0776. The car has been driving fine for a couple of days so far. My check engine light is NOT on and never was on. The internet "google" says it's a serious issue and needs immediate attention but I'm not a mechanic so I don't know.

    Questions:

    1. Does a P0776 code require a brand new transmission?
    2. Can a transmission flush clear a P0776 code?
    3. Should I stop driving even though it's running fine right now? (don't want to tear anything else up).
    4. Can you replace a Pressure control Solenoid B without replacing the whole transmission?

I'm clueless when it comes to mechanic stuff. Can somebody give me an honest opinion? Is the dealership just trying to rip me off?

I've been getting my transmission flushes regularly.

It's a tricky one. Transmission solenoid codes are sometimes just that, 1 solenoid. Other times it's actually the pump, bad fluid, electrical issues like a ecu. You could spend $500-$1000 in parts and labor to replace the one solenoid, just to find out that wasn't the problem. That's why most just recommend installing a low mileage used Transmission or getting yours completely rebuilt.

Can I keep driving it until it gets bad? The engine light is not on and it's been driving fine. Will it tear something else up if I keep driving it without it getting fixed. Don't want to fork over the $5600 right away but I will if it's dangerous to drive on it like that.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I guess you’re looking for a low mileage trans. Thank God you didn’t get bent over (yet). You’ll sort this out. Good luck! Edit: and drive the hell out of it for research purposes

I wouldn't drive it before checking the transmission fluid level or having the level checked, it could simply be low on fluid.

Following to find out what the op decides to do .
I think if he goes through my write up , he should have a grasp on the next steps to take .
If he isnt into the mechanical thing at home , I would highly suggest letting a reputable transmission shop have a look at it for a second opinion .I can assure you , it will be far less expensive than the dealership
