(2010) Driver seat wear. Replace or fix?

What are my options here? Is this fixable, or does this require the replacement of the entire seat? This is regular wear and tear from 7 years of getting in and out of my truck 4 times a day (on average).

 

You have a few options.

-Check out local junk yards for a replacement seat
-Look online for a replacement OEM seat cover.
-Look online for replacement aftermarket seat cover.

The fabric is not permanently affixed to the seat and can be peeled off the seat and replaced.

 

Thanks. I want to avoid covering up the problem by simply putting a cover over it. Any chance you or anyone else has a part number for the fabric?

 

Upholstery shop should be able to replace that panel or recover the seat as another option.

 

Throw a caltrend neo supreme seat cover on it. They are real nice, not expensive I rock the black and grey ones in my truck in the front and it looks like they came with the truck, You could go full grey and get essentially a stock look. they are two piece design if you just wanted to run the bottom.

 

Just to clarify in reference to my post when I say cover i'm talking about the fabric that is damaged on your seat.

Whats your budget here? That'll help pin point options.

 

Fair question. I'd be willing to put $200/$300 into it. I really like my truck. So much so that I spent 5 hours yesterday just on cleaning my seats. I don't plan on getting another truck for another couple of years, at least.

 

Near me, and your area may be the same, we have a whole blvd. dedicated to auto recyclers (http://www.ranchotoyotatruckparts.com/toyota-tacoma.html), you may try and find a used seat in better shape, as you know the TRD seats are very forgiving when they are stained and can be cleaned easily. Can't imagine a seat costing more then a few hundred bucks.

Nope. The seats didn't look bad at a glance (no individual stains), but 7 years of dirt comes out pretty brown and black when attacked with a hot water extractor. It was frickin' nasty
They look brand new now, except for the physical damage.

If you look up the parts exploded diagram, there is a part number for the seat cover. If I remember right, I think it was about $250 for the seat cover. Although this is rediculous, considering how long the OEM seat covers last, this may be a consideration. Of coarse, there's probably a limitation on how many years Toyota has inventory of seat covers. I don't imagine it's a hot selling item.

 

I'm not a real fan of leather seats, plus, yeah, it would blow my budget by quite a bit.

 

At this point just cover it and call it a day

 

I'm considering it. What gets me is that a good set of covers (front and back) costs about as much (if not more) as getting one seat redone, it seems.

Yep, I think I found it: 71072-AD031-B2, and it does go for around $250. I wonder how hard it would be to replace it.

 

Probably not too difficult. Buy the cheap hog ring plier kit and go at it. Sounds like a good time to install a butt warmer.

 

Well just this minuet got back from the auto upholsters, turned on the computer to TW and here is your question!.

Answer is simple and inexpensive, have an auto upholster replace that side panel ( with the damage) only. With your newer model (compared to my '95 T100) they should be able to match the material.

If not (as in my case) have the replacement material, as close to what you have as they can get, put on all 4 seat edges(seat edges and seat backs edges) this way they will all match and look uniform.

Cost for mine was $160 including him fixing the seats foam back up to original height, took about 2.5 hours and now looks out standing, and fells like a new seat

 

Auto upholstery is a thing? Awesome. I'll look into it. I contacted two local salvage shops too, and asked if they had any 2nd gen tacomas. Thanks!
