Hello Tacomaworld! I own a 2009 base model 2.7L manual. What are some of the common problems that I should be prepared for? I have a spare serpentine belt, hoses, brake pads, spiral cable. Please let me know. Thank you Mike

President McKinley w/KLM 203P and threw the roof antenna, ICON RXT leaf spring packs (position 2), Bilsteen 5100s, ARE Camper Shell, Pop & Lock tail gate, Dash Cam
The coolant line under the intake manifold, on some years it was made of plastic and failed. On other years, and as an aftermarket repair option from Toyota, a stainless steel pipe was used. Replace that.

Other than that there is nothing specific I can think of. It's a pretty solid engine.

Common to many Tacoma's regardless of engine is the front bearing assemblies and the carrier bearing for the drive shaft.

    Too few to list.
It's a slip join for the 5th Gen 4Runners as well. I grease every oil change. No carrier bearing.

As for the 2.7L, like everyone else said it's that pesky plastic cross over pipe which was on the older models.

Thanks for the replies! I looked any mine has the plastic pipe CRAP.. I’ll have to research how to replace, any links would be appreciated! Regarding the bearing, I’ll have to research that as well. I really appreciate the info, keep it coming thanks!

You're coming up on the 12 year deadline for the WEP, so look your frame over VERY closely for rust.

I’ve checked for rust, just superficial rust, plus my Tacoma is out of the country..

So I don’t expect to put a lot of miles on my Tacoma probably around 5000 a year and it has 40,000 now. It seems like a lot of the problems have been with higher miles Tacomas. But I’ll probably get the parts just so I’m ready if it does begin to leak. I also don’t need the heater has anyone just eliminated that pipe for the heater and ran a separate coolant line over to the throttlebody?

I have a 2006 base access cab 2.7 and the slip yoke doesn't groan but it makes a slight bumping/banging noise after coming to a stop. Not every time but once in a while. It's the slip yoke binding against the transmission output shaft... the grease is dried up and there's no grease fitting to lubricate, not on the 5-lugs. I'll be taking it apart and greasing it well in the near future, when I replace the U-joints and carrier bearing.
And yes of course the dreaded plastic coolant bypass hose.
