I began hearing a noise above 60mph and had the dealer check it out. They said it was the front wheel bearings and it would cost $2600 to replace. I am not a mechanic but have time now as I am retired so I'm going to try to do it myself. They also said I needed front rotors and pads for another $900. Any help with advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Are you a risk taker?
Do you have spare time in 30k-50k miles to do them again?
If so, take your pick from any of the budget line on RockAuto.

If you want good quality assemblies and don’t want to worry about them again.
Get with @05Taco4x4. He hand builds them. Great product.

You will need a 35mm socket and a torque wrench capable of torquing to 175 ft/lbs.
Other than that, basic hand tools will work. Unless you are “by the book” and want to torque the hub bolts. You’ll need a 17mm torque adapter.

Most guys just use Loctite and get them good and tight with a standard 17mm wrench.

I just did my front wheel bearings, and I'm by no means a mechanic. I just had to find the 35MM socket (I actually used a 36, but 35mm would be better), and borrowed an electric impact to get the axle nut off. Lots of good videos and how tos available. O yeah, and I also bought a couple bolts that thread into the brake rotor to force it off the hub since it was slightly rusted onto it.

I bought two of these. They actually sell two kits for our truck, one with cheaper no name bearings, and then ones with good ones. I bought the good ones.

Just don't do my trick and put it all together with the dust shield off by 90 degrees... had to pull it apart to mount my caliper... oops.

Weird that their picture on the website is of DORMAN hub.

    Thats not unusual.
The actual hub (Doorman) is fine.
It’s the bearings you’re after. You want NSK or Koyo.

I’d be 100% fine with a doorman hub. But not a Doorman “hub assembly”.
“Hub Assembly” is assembled with bearings. Stay away from cheap “assemblies” if possible.

Oh I agree, I use Dorman parts here and there on my own vehicles. It's just weird that it's advertised as a "KOYO or NSK Front Wheel bearing assembly" when it's clear that it's a DORMAN hub. That's all.

Yeah. NSK and Koyo are bearing makers.
    They don’t make hubs.

I agree, the picture makes it confusing for those that don’t know.

You have to read the product description to figure out what exactly you are getting.

The front wheel bearing assembly is asssembled with the following parts:

    Dorman front hub or equivalent

Koyo or NSK Bearing OEM suppliers for Toyota

    Toyota or Timken oil seal

    Toyota bolts

    Toyota oring

As long as it's the quality bearings and seals, the DORMAN hub vs a Toyota rebuild doesn't matter to me.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I was kind of in a hurry, so I ended up getting SKF wheel bearing hub assembly at a local store. Hopefully, they will out last me... It wasn't bad replacing them, especially with all the video help.
