I just bought this sweet, one-owner, 2007 TRD, V6, 4x4, Access Cab Taco with only 113,000 miles on it. Yes, It has frame issues. I found this on the web: RUSTBUSTERS. I can buy the frame parts I need for around $600, and there's a fab shop where I can have them installed for around $2,000. And yes, they'd be more than willing to take my money. After I get that done, I'm going to give it the 3-step POR-15 treatment. BUT... Before I bought the truck, I had it inspected by a auto repair shop that I trust, and they showed me where the rust issues were.

Here's my question.. what's the consensus on doing the fab shop & RustBusters for $2,600, and does it seem like overkill....or does the frame look ok enough to just apply the POR-15?

    Thanks!

I'd get the frame plates and get the fab done before rust treatment. Just the opinion of some guy on the internet

Oh yeah, for sure.... POR-15 would be the last treatment!

Damn that looks really bad, you should have never bought the truck. If you got a pre inspection and you saw all that rust why did you still buy it?

Maybe I have brain damage.. HA.... I've seen a whole lot worse frames....but I've known the previous owner for around 15 years, and I know how he took care of his maintenance. Plus I got it for $12,500. But.. back to the question.... Should I have the framework done and the POR-15, or just do the POR and monitor every year? Thanks.

Absolutely get it repaired, POR 15 won't fix that. I'm gonna be that guy,you paid WAY too much.

Ok thanks for the info...I appreciate it. The frame on my '03 that was just totaled in October was in much worse shape...Plus don't see me going off road with it (intentionally) or towing a 5th wheel or anything crazy like that... maybe to trailer my motorcycle once a year (if that), no heavy loads like gravel or sand.... So I'll keep the stress off of it.

You got me thinking about why I'd buy a truck with a bad frame.......Just a bit of history ..... My '03 Taco was rear-ended and totaled in October, and I got $10,125 from the other guys insurance (for a 20 year old truck).....I'm not real good at math, but I paid $12,500 for the '07. So really just $2,500 out of pocket, and roughly $3,000 for repairs = $5,500 for a REALLY nice truck... after the repairs and the POR-15.

That's some multidimensional math right there.
