    Hello all,

My 06’ v6 Tacoma has almost 190,000 miles on it and check engine light on (probably due to O2 sensor) and it’s never been touched except for regular oil changes, etc. I’m wanting to do a “Heavy Check” (aviation speak) and replace all wearable parts. Has anyone come across a complete list of all the items? I’ve searched the forum..Who has replaced Coils just because? They are expensive at Toyota!

    Thanks from Texas…

I would get the codes as a first step before throwing parts.
I wouldn't do coils "just because mileage", if you have a bad one change it but they don't have a high failure rate.
Plugs should be done every 30k, if the plug tubes have oil in them it's time for valve cover gaskets.

Belt, hoses, water pump, thermostat, idler, and tensioner pulleys would be a good idea to look at doing if they have never been done.

Fluids should have all been changed at least once (preferably twice) at that age and mileage, if they haven't that would be a good idea ( be cautious if you have an automatic and the fluid has never been changed).

Other than all the above raise up the front end and check everything for play, noise, leaks, etc and replace what's needed.
Same thing with the U-Joints and carrier bearing.

Get yourself a Haynes repair manual. It has great recommended maintenance schedules and walkthroughs (unfortunately in black and white). They sell them at just about any auto parts store and they have one for your toyota model

Dig out the High Mileage Maintenance schedule. Follow for the 100 kmile service items.

If this were me, I'd change all the fluids, plugs, serpentine belt w/pulleys & tensioner, inspect the brake pads (front & rear), vacuum hoses, PCV, radiator hose, air filter, MAF, Throttle body, flush the bugs out of the radiator and coolers and generally inspect the condition of all while doing the service work. Then check drivetrain and suspension for wear.

Then settle back until the next 30 kmile service interval. Keep up with the oil changes every 5 kmiles.

Tacoma coils are relatively sturdy. My 07 has same mileage as yours and I have yet to replace one. Whereas, our Lexus ES350 had 3 coils replaced by 200K (the first one by 70K). On the Taco, ignition coils are relatively easy to replace, it’s easier carrying an extra coil or two and replace them as they go bad. Yec Flama is a good aftermarket producer of ignition coils. Don't get AA Ignition or other cheap Chinese coils. You'll be lucky if they last two years.

I plan on replacing the cooling system parts as preventive maintenance when my truck hits 200K - radiator, water pump, fan clutch, hoses, thermostat, ATF hoses, coolant, etc…

What I would replace on your Taco, if not already done: alternator; rear brake shoes; u-joints, PCV valve; ATF filter (with ATF drain/refill); belt; any of the cooling system items mention above; and PS/brake fluids. I would also buy at least one wheel bearing and hub unit, ready to install in case one of yours goes bad. I'm on my third set of front wheel bearings, but I off-road and I replace them at the first sign of wheel play. Also, fold back your vacuum lines and replace them if you see any cracks. If you have 4X, check the vacuum line that goes to the actuator - I recently checked mine and it was torn at the end and about to fall off the actuator.

As noted above, don't guess on the cause of the engine light, get yourself a cheap code reader. With that many miles, the light will be lighting up more often. The fancier code readers will read codes from ABS, transmission, etc...

Sorry to horde in on your thread OP, but am looking at doing some maintenance myself on an '05 with 110k miles.

When would you guys replace all the coolant hoses? Based on mileage or age?

Does any parts house sell a coolant hose kit?

I personally go more by age and condition than mileage, the original belts and hoses typically are much better quality than anything aftermarket anymore.
It's nice that the 4.0 doesnt have any of the BS plastic fittings that tend to crumble and leak when they age like most other vehicles have nowdays.

There's no "hose kit" that I'm aware of that is sold, you generally have to buy them all separately.

Not so much based mileage or age. but on their condition. Hoses should feel like new - supple and not have any cracks or tears, or balloning. That being said, I change em at 100k, along with the thermostat and belt. Less than $50 for the two hoses and thermostat (the last time I replaced em, about 7 years ago). Gates for the hoses and Motorad for the thermostat. And Bando for the belt.
For me thats pretty cheap insurance and sound investment in preventive maintenance.
