My Tacoma's brakes failed last week (rusted through steel line) and I posted that. The shop replaced all the steel lines with copper nickel but warned me to tAke a look at the frame. A ball pein hammer went through the side of the frame on both sides of the frame just aft of the front wheels this morning when I started testing. Anybody had any satisfaction from Toyota on 2006 frame rust?

The dealer I use for parts has done a couple of them. Makes me wonder if there will be another big buyback/frame swap deal coming along soon. Personally it doesn't bother me a bit. Sure they shouldn't rot out but they stand behind the trucks and make it right. If it were a Chevy they would tell you to pound sand.

I have a question about this, i bought my taco from a used car lot not a toyota dealer. If i find frame rot will a toyota dealer still replace the frame for free? If toyota does a buy back would i be eligible for the buy back?

No, not a repost. Had posted note about brake failure, just found frame rust throughs after getting under the truck yesterday. Taking it to dealer Tuesday. Maybe the places it rusted through can be welded. Quote for frame swap was $15,000.

That's gotta be something Toyota will cover. Road conditions must be rough on frames there in your area. Let us know what you find out. Fortunately here in the desert southwest we don't have frame rot problems. Must suck to find it on your own truck..

Can You post the details on the "New England B.S." thread ? I see you are from the Cape & I am sure others from our area would be interested in what happens.
    Thanks,

I would go to your local dealer you use for service and start an incident.

Might be worth it to contact Toyota of North America if you don't find anything at the dealer. The other thing would be to go to the Newport dealer where the stacks of frames were seen and start there.

The stack, I was under the impression, were first gens. But there was one 2nd Gen in the scrap container and the parts guys said they had done a few recently.

I'm in PA also and I agree. I learned my lesson with my last truck which was a 2000 Silverado that I bought new. Everything underneath was rusty. Brake lines rusted through and failed. Replaced them myself with stainless. Also replaced the transmission lines for same reason and when I sold it the fuel lines were in need of replacing. Already bought Fluid Film for my 2013 Tacoma. Will be applying it this fall and following year I will pressure wash the entire underneath and put another coat of fluid film on. I figure it can't hurt and most likely will help. Possibly a great deal.

My Fluid Film applied in November of 2012 is still wet. I will be putting a second coat on this fall after a good scrub.

It was awesome to have a black frame this winter when all other vehicles had white frames due to salt.

Also, with the earlier frames starting to have issues, it's easier to see the "target" areas to look out for. What will be interesting is to see if the redesigned frame (mid-2008 or 2009, I forget) or at least, new part number frame, has any additional design features to help combat these issues.

In 05 I bought a brand new Tacoma and by 08 the underside of it looked worse than my old 89 does. I wirebrushed it all down and coated it with rust bullet but when I sold it in 2010 it was bleeding through pretty badly. The truck I have now is pretty clean but there is a little scale underneath I need to treat soon. It may take a while but I suspect there will eventually be a frame campaign for the second gens. My local dealer has done a few already and one of them only had 8k miles on it. But the guy parks it outside and lives right on the ocean apparently. I have a feeling once the OP escalates it with Toyota he'll be getting a new frame. Yet the frame on my old 89 is still rock solid. The body isn't though.

WOW! Those pics show much worse damage than the previous. Glad my frame has a nice thick coat of undercoating on it.

I wouldn't worry about doing any scrubbing, wire brush, wire wheel or por15 work now. Toyota will have to do something about that. Even if it is forced by an attorney.

Edit: i thought this was a update of another thread i read the other day.

Damn, that just makes me sick. I just lost my 2000 to frame rust and bought a 07....hope like hell this doesn't happen again. The frame on my "new" one looked great but I still por 15'd it and keep a can of rustoleum on hand. I swear I'm always crawling underneath looking for rust, the neighbors think I'm crazy. I sure hope everything works out for you. Even when you end up with a nice check from the buy back it's still hard, all the work we put into our trucks and to know it's just going to the crusher. Please keep the updates coming.

How common is this issue? I just bought a 2013 and wanted to drive it until the wheels fell off.
