I am due for the CT state emissions inspection, and my Check Engine light is coming on very consistently.

My tire/repair shop hooked up their computer. It was returning a P0500 yesterday. It returned a P0503 w 134, 040 on April 18th. Their research says that the code is most likely being triggered by a fault between the instrument cluster and the various onboard sensors.

Replacing the cluster is a huge pain, because the truck can’t be driven from the time that the replacement instrument cluster is ordered (precise mileage must be provided on placing the order so it can be programmed and integrity of the odometer reading is maintained). Part availability is sketchy, with expected delivery between 2 weeks and 4 months.

Has anyone got experience with this issue?

It would help if we knew the code number.
A total guess here, since you mention cluster, would be a P0500.
That code can be difficult to diagnose. But there’s a walk through here on the forum should that be the code.

Again, we can’t help much without knowing the actual code.

I updated my original post. I received the codes (P0500) and added them to my original post after you replied.

I will figure out how to find the walk through.

A $20 OBD II transmitter and $5 phone app are well worth the money.

Did you replace your instrument cluster? I'm going through this now.
