I recently bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma, it has a few upgrades and such, but the headlights are stock. I have been looking all over for bright LED headlights that keep the OEM look, but I am coming up dry. I have seen people upgrade the lighting harness to run Higher power halogens. But I am new to Tacomas, So I would like to hear somebody with more experience give their say.

truck stats: 2003 Toyota Tacoma Xtra cab, its a prerunner, 3.4 liter v6. drive train is stock besides suspension work and wheels.

Did you use the stock housings and harness or did you install a new harness?

I bought a new set of OEMs. Toss in better bulbs if you want. Last for 20 years or so, the housings that is. Unless they sustain physical damage.

I hit up rock auto for replacements for mines keeping the halogen. The stock housing doesnt direct the light from LEDs properly. So if you want LED I believe you should look into replacing the housing, bulbs and harness

I think TYC and Depo are usually the go-to brands. Although I just got a pair of TYCs last year and the clear coat is already peeling…..

As the name implies, a retrofit is way more that just a bulb upgrade. An HID retrofit can use the OEM housing with the addition of a specially designed prizm lens to focus the HID bulb output. There are kits available to do this retrofitting that come with their own wiring harness.

IMO, an HID retrofit is far superior to any simple bulb replacement because they output highly focused light with an excellent spread and a great cutoff so no oncoming traffic is harmed.
