I'm a new member and need some information. I purchased a 2003 Tacoma about a year ago and like to add Cruise Control, but can't to figure out if it's prewired for cruise or not. Can anyone tell how to tell?

I am going to assume no since the CC requires an extra cable going to the throttle body. The non-cruise trucks i've seen don't have this cable.

Too bad, the cars all just need the switch. Everything is plug and play with them.

My '03 is pre-wired for CC. The 'hot' wire connection is on the MAF loom. I have a throttle cable and a kick down cable for the auto trans with the 3RZ motor. Not sure if the 3.4's have that or not.

Truck was built in June '03.

03-04 3.4L are different than the 02 and earlier. no kickdown or cruise cables. everything is electronic.

that being said I'm not sure it's pre-wired or already part of the loom :notsure:

I added cruise to my old 2004. i found an oem kit online somewhere. It came with a harness that plugged into existing connectors on my truck.

Just had to route it under the dash from one side to the other and add the stalk and the limit switch to the clutch lever. It was pretty simple, only took a couple of hours.

if you have the electronic throttle control then you don't need anything to add CC, its all done 100% through the ECM.

the 03-04 with ETC are super easy and all you have to do is plug in the CC switch to have CC so you just need to put the CC switch into the steering wheel by cutting a hole in it or buying a steering wheel with the CC switch already in it which is the best solution and you have CC.

when looking for a wheel the sequoia steering wheels are the same and often easier to find

Even my '99 was 'pre-wired' for CC, but I had to acquire the following to make it work:

actuator (which included the extra cable)
CC ECM (hardest part to locate)
CC switch (got from a 4runner)
brake stop switch (from a Camry)

The harness was ready to accept it all, with no cutting/splicing :D

Ok, I purchased a steering wheel with a cruise switch off a 01 Sequoia. Install was easy fit perfect. Cruise light comes on when I'm in park but when I'm moving it just flashes off and on. I've chased all the wiring and according to the Toyota Diagrams all looks correct. Only thing different is the wire colors on the Sequoia CC Switch, but the last time I checked electrons are color blind so not sure where to look now. Anyone have any ideas. Remember this is a 3.4L Automatic so it's all electronically control as far as I know.

Did you get all the other parts you need? There's a lot more to it than just the stalk.

The parts you mention are due to the fact that CC is an option. The wiring harness is not.

    Good luck OP.

if the cruise control light is blinking its telling you the brake lights are out or the brake light switch needs replacing. on my 04 it worked fine with the stock switch.

I bought one but found out I didn't need it but maybe the 03 didn't have the same switch. I know earlier trucks you needed to replace the brake switch so I bet that's it. they cost about $12 so its cheap just to replace it and see.

as an FYI to everyone - if you ever find the shifter wont shift out of park unless you pull the little shift lock release tab, that tells you the tail light fuse has blown and if this happens while you are driving, your CC stops working and the cruise control light starts blinking to tell you something is wrong.

Reviving this thread in hopes someone can tell me where to find the 3 screws for the control knob. I have the lever and what I read above tells me the lever is all I need to install on my truck but I don’t have the screws. Any help would be appreciated!
