Stock tire size is 205 75 15. I'm considering three All Terrain tires from different manufacturers. The available tire sizes are:

    215 75 15
    225 75 15
    225 70 15

Will all of the above sizes fit the stock rims and clear the fenders?

Would any of the above sizes be preferred?

Considering Cooper Discoverer AT3, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A® KO2 and Toyo Open Country A/T II.

Any thoughts on the above tires? Will be using the vehicle for some off road driving

    Thank you

You may get bashed for asking this without searching..however this was me a few weeks ago. Which Tacoma wheels do you have besides the 15" diameter? You'll want a larger tire than you listed. Appears you went on tire rack and went with recommended sizes?

I did a search and read up on this before posting this as my questions are more specific. Thanks for your help.

Actually tire rack doesn't recommend the 215 75 15, for example, as they are 2.2 percent larger in diameter than the stock tire. The problem is finding All Terrain tires in the OEM stock size.

Edit, copied and pasted here from my post further down:

Yes, it has the 5 lug basic wheels

I'd like to stay close to the stock tire size and get tires that will fit the original rims and not rub. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you

None will rub the truck but I don't know your rim width. Tire shop will know.

edit: sorry had to wash hands.

The 225 will prob. be too wide. Stock 6 lug 4 cyl. had that size on alloys.
Do you have steel or alloy wheels?
    Do you know the width?

I imagine a 215/75 will be fine and I agree 205 is just too puny. Even on the minivan I jumped up to 215

Thanks for your help. They are the base wheels that came with the truck. Believe they are steel, but not certain.

I just looked it up online, not sure if it is correct but it is for the
Toyota Tacoma 2003 2.4 2WD, which is what I have and the tire size is correct.

    Tires 205/75R15

    Rim 6Jx15 ET40

    PCD 5x114.3

    – Center Bore: 67.1 mm
    – Wheel Fasteners: Lug nuts – Thread Size: M12 x 1.5
    – Trim Production: [2001 .. 2004]

Appreciate any further advice on tire size and tire manufacturer/model.

That's the size wheel the Sienna minivan had. Yes a 215 will fit fine.

It's really going to be up to you what brand you want.

There are threads dedicated to each of those tires where owners claim each to be the best or worst.

Can't go wrong with any of them nor the GoodYear Wranglers from WalMart.

I fit 235 75 15 and many others have without issues, stay with the ones you've listed so far though if you want to stay stock sized

In a 2wd Tacoma, would a 225 tire size be preferred over 215 for off road?

No changes from stock will be made, for example the engine, transmission and rear end will be kept stock.

How much would installing a 225 75 15 tire affect the gas mileage?

    thank you

are the tires you want only avail. in 225?

BTW. it's not 2WD. putting in a locking rear end will do more than tires ever will.

225's are not much different, probably won't notice much change at all. I noticed a mild change with 235's which are bigger, but I still maintain 20 mpg driving like a bat out of hell. power loss I compensated for with drop in filter and deck plate mod

I'm new to off road driving and plan on doing relatively light off roading. The street tires I have slip on the dirt trails. The off road websites and articles recommend changing out street tires to off road tires as the first thing that should be changed on a 2wd truck if you plan to take it off road driving. Before a locking rear end or anything else. Is that incorrect?

you're fine, slap the tires on first and then locker. I don't have a locker yet and have gone to some pretty dope places for a stock height 5 lug. Bald ass street tires on a 4x4 will get you no where compared to good meaty tires on a 4x2 with high rpms.
