I sacraficed an old bad APPS sensor. (pics and findings will be posted soon) Appears it's a broken solder joint issue and not the resistence traces or wiper's failing. A little non evassive surgery should be able to repair them.

Any update on this? Currently going through the random dead pedal problem, already replaced the TPS. Hoping this will fix it, thanks!

Waiting for hotter ambient temps here in Phoenix before i'll know for sure.

I too am experiencing issues with this. Getting a P2138 "Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D/E Voltage Correlation" code and going into "Limp" mode (dead accelerator). Changed the TPS. Thinking that getting a new throttle body is the next step due to not being able to buy a replacement accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS). An easy fix would be great!

    Any updates?

That code indicates a stuck throttle plate. Have you tried cleaning it first? I have 2 good extra motors and gears from 2 throttle bodys i've been experimenting with. Might be able to repair your throttle body with my parts.

Here's what I know so far. After driving for a few days with the laptop and Toyota Techstream software open and recording engine data. I caught it acting up while recording.

The two graphs displayed represent the voltage readings from the accelerator pedal position sensor. It is worth noting that both graphs exhibit identical patterns. This occurrence suggests a voltage drop in the VC or the E2 circuit, which could be attributed to various factors, such as an internal issue within the sensor, faulty wiring connecting back to the ECM, or even a potential problem within the ECM itself. Therefore, this observation leads me to suspect a potential broken solder connection. This failure happens under high ambient air temperatures, further reinforcing the notion that the cause lies within the engine compartment rather than the ECM itself.

Where i'm at now with testing for broken solder joint. I caarefully upened up the back with a dremel and reheated solder points on the board. Next i'm going to swap out sensor on new throttle body and see if that fixed to problem. I'll fill the hole I made with some silicone.

Some additional pics of sensor disassembled. It's a pretty robust sensor inside.

I ordered a new throttle body for peace of mind lol. I got a new TPS sensor as well first and said F it. Going to clean old one and keep as spare I guess. Don’t really need the $50 TPS now :pout:

For What it is worth I ran into a low solder melting temperature used on control boards in welders .

Like in your problem If the temperature rose high enough the connection opened once things cooled down it worked again for some time. Outside of warranty Maybe $1000.00

Trying to duplicate the problem was so very hard removing the covers allowed it to stay cool enough..

When it opened till the covers were removed it was cool enough to not detect.

The top of the engine is about the highest temps as heat rises even more so in Hells Waiting room.

Best of luck continuing your research.
