2002 Tacoma V6 Water Pump - Need Help

Hi all! Newbie here.
It sounds like my 2002 Tacoma V6 needs a water pump, unfortunately. She's got 230K miles on her now and has been a good truck. The water pump is the second one after my local dealer put a new one on when the timing belt was replaced at about 160K miles.
Question -
Does the water pump run off the timing belt or just the serpentine belt? I'm thinking that if it's the serpentine I may just try to replace the pump myself if I can find the time.

just serpentine. they replace it if needed when doing timing since all the hoses have to come off anyway
to get to timing belt.

so, standard water pump/gasket and radiator coolant and time, no messing with timing

5vz water pump is run by the timing belt, not your serpentine belt.

Easy guys. Good info. I had think about it too. I think the confusion stemmed from the fact the fan is run by the serp. Belt.

The water pump does run on the smooth side of the timing belt. With the labor involved it is your best interest to do the timing belt and water pump service while it's disassembled.

The service isn't difficult but does require the right tools and time to get it done. I wish it was easier to replace like the other accessories with their own belts, but alas, it isn't so.
