It's the best way to describe the problem - freaking out. Sometimes the truck will just be parked in the driveway and I can hear the locks constantly actuating. I don't think it's the switches in either of the door panels, I'm pretty sure it happens even when the switches are unplugged (though the problem is so random I don't quite want to commit to that).

Today it got worse, the 30a fuse in the dash for the power windows blew so both windows and locks stopped working. I put in a new fuse temporarily to get the windows up and took the fuse back out.

Not sure where to go from here troubleshooting so I thought I would ask here first. Any tips? I may end up converting the truck to manual locks only. I am a bit curious about sensors that actuate the power locks, like if I use a key to unlock the door- how does the truck know to unlock the other door?

    THANKS!

The door lock switches ground out some inputs into a body control ECU, which then activates the door lock motors. If they're still freaking out with the switches unplugged, then there's possibly a wire grounding out that shouldn't be. Or - Did it or does it have an aftermarket remote system? Those are often poorly installed and could also cause this.

I attached a wiring diagram for the door locks on an 03, should be the same.

    Thanks 0xDEADBEEF !

That info does give me something to go on. I can at least inspect the wiring harness as it leaves the door towards the rest of the truck.

Your username reminds me of an old joke I read somewhere:

Why do programmers get Halloween and Christmas confused?

    Because Oct 31 = Dec 25

Does it have a remote??aftermarket alarm??

Maybe you never got the Fobs for

Does this happen when your driving?? Only Parked in your driveway??

Lots of wind enough to shake the truck when this happens. Something needs to cause the wires to move enough to cause this??

Evil rodents being frisky causing this to happen??

There are no sensors unless you have a remote aftermarket system though I do recall a dealer installed one in the southern states.

Simple switches in the key controlled locks

If you have any sort of alarm or part Now the frequencies used are regulated but some outside interference causing this problem if it only happens parked at home.

I dug into the truck this weekend and solved the problem pretty quickly. Underneath the passenger door panel, the bundle of wires leading from the lock actuator (I believe, actually not 100% sure but it's the bundle from the area near the lock mechanism, for all I know the power window motor is there) and found a wire that had rubbed on the sheet metal enough to cut the insulation. There was even a burned looking area on the sheet metal. I taped up the wire, it physically had enough strands of copper still intact that I felt like adding insulating tape was a good enough fix. I also added about 5 layers of electrical tape on the sheet metal to avoid more abrasive contact.

So far so good! Locks and windows are working great!
