I'm preparing to replace my radiator on my 2001 Taco Prerunner 2.7 liter. Is there are standard core size for this model or do I need to remove and measure the old one first before I order it? Also, any recommendations on aftermarket radiators is appreciated.

some peeps have had issues with differetn core sizes but I think this is because of the chain stores suppliers. I buy my radiators at my local radiator shop. They can get different brands and for my toyotas they get Koyo. The only issue I have is the trans cooler piping is slightly smaller than the original. The rubber lines fit but I would prefer a snugger slip on "feeling".

I had no luck trying to find any performance radiators for the first gen Tacoma. Were you able to find anything other than just factory replacement?

    I did a replacement of mine about 3 months ago. Also a 01 2.7L. I used a 18 1/2 inch from radiator Express.

I got a mishimoto for $100 free shipping on Amazon. The width is the same on the options from all major suppliers - there are just different heights for auto / manual.

No high performance options without modification.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
If you ask really really nicely and have some funds Ron Davis will make you an all aluminum rad. Gonna get one of those beauties for my cruiser, the Taco well I don't see a need for anything that special on it, it barely gets to 190 in 110 degree heat, makes me think the stock unit is oversized as it is.

lol I should have said without modifying your truck or your bank account. That's what I say too. If you were racing your truck on a course you might need one, but no one complains about overheating. Still those all aluminum rads look sexy lol.

I think the only one who notices how "sexy" an aluminum radiator is, is the one who bought and installed one.

(Unless one is in the habit of raising the hood and pointing out to women/girls how "sexy" his radiator is, as if she cared...)

I believe there are three different possible radiator sizes, at least there was for my prerunner. One for manual, one for automatic, and one for 4wd (not sure if auto or manual). When I replaced mine with an Autozone radiator, not sure about your exact rig. I would measure your radiator before purchasing one that way you can get the exact size.

those aluminum radiators have aluminum fittings for the auto trans lines and they strip pretty easy... now you have 2 problems.

    I installed a 3 row Copper Brass one !!

Aluminum ones are to hard to do in field repairs .

I have seen far to many cracked plastic tanks

Got the same truck as you, replaced the radiator on it around 30,000 miles ago. No problems since. Bought
    "Sunbelt Radiators
RADIATOR FOR TOYOTA FITS TACOMA 2.7 3.4 V6 CORE HEIGHT 22-5/8 INCHES 1755" on Amazon for around $70. The height of this radiator is a tiny bit taller than stock but does the job and fits with the stock skid plates
