2000 Toyota Tacoma with 196000 miles on it. I've had her since day one. I'm told that would my fuel problem and I might need a new fuel pump which is going to cost $400-600.I would like some feedback as to whether or not you think it's worth repairing or if I should just replace it?

Do you mean repairing (as in rebuilding it perhaps) or replacing the fuel pump? Or are you asking if you should replace the whole truck?

I'd say a 2000 Tacoma with 196,000 miles is worth repairing for as long as the frame remains intact.

As far as the fuel pump, I think the only practical option is to replace it. On a pickup it's not the worst job. Unless you have a way to hoist things it's easier with a buddy to help you lift the bed off the truck, though.

Worth fixing for sure, and DIY-able. Some people unbolt the bed and just lift the front of it up to access the pump.

I was asking if I should replace the entire truck. Is she worth investing the cost of replacing the pump? Up until the last year I've invested nothing in this truck except regular maintenance. In the last year I've had to replace gaskets, upper valve and oil pan, which I assume dry out so it's really not that unusual? I love that truck didn't really don't want to give her up.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Try looking up what trucks comparable to your own are selling for right now. I think you will find quickly you will purchase the fuel pump.

New truck payments are $400 a month for years on end.

I'm thinking you could find volunteers to help on TW too.

Post pics of your truck! And depending on the condition, yes or no. As long as its in working order, I would replace it.

In the mean time, here's a YouTube video on how to replace the fuel pump in your 2000 Tacoma:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_VHxBmecj8

You can go to YouTube to find other videos.

Looks like you don't have to remove the bed to replace it. Bonus!
