    Hey guys,
Never owned a tacoma and looking to buy one,

    https://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/5930342850.html

checking that out tomorrow, I was wondering if theres anything in particular that I should be looking out for. For example, the 95 4runner i bought a few years back had a issues with a head gasket cracking and transmission issues which I later learned was very common with that car and year. Hoping this can be a reliable daily driver, not using it for any offroading or hauling. Thanks!

    Welcome to TW.

Not sure what I see above the driver side rear window, but something doesn't look right for the paint.

When buying any year Tacoma, they should definitely be checked for rusty frames/undercarriage. Tacomas are infamous due to the rust they form underneath. Take a long and hard look under there.

Head gasket problems seem to happen a lot with the 3.0 HOWEVER, Tacomas don't use that engine. The 3.4l is as bulletproof as the other 2.7l option. Transmissions are good in both manual and autos as well.

This does seem to be a higher mileage Tacoma, so it might need small bits replaced soon. Just a heads up. Good luck.

Find out, and get receipts if possible, of all the shit he did to mod the truck. Unless i do a mod to a car myself, i just assume it was done wrong until i verify it.

I see large flares that he may have had to drill in to the body for, a lift (see what parts were used), oversized rims which are less valuable than stock rims. All this is to your advantages a buyer cause all this stuff lowers resale value. I wouldn't pay more than $5000 for this. Walk up to him and offer him: $4500 right here, cash in hand.

Cool will check for rust and see where he got the mods done. Also thanks for the advice on the price. Wasnt sure how much of a deal I was looking at. All the trucks this year and mileage were listed around 8000, may just be because of the area, not the hugest selection of cars in Hawaii. Any other questions I should be asking? I want to come into this deal as knowledgable as possible.

As long as the truck lived it`s whole life there unless it was driven in the surf the rust issue should not be a major problem

192,000 maybe time to think about a timing belt might be what prompted the truck being for sale.

Things like the rubber hoses belts brakes and suspension might all need attention

Check near the front leaf spring perches for frame rot (rust), as well as everywhere else. Make sure the "ABS" light is off on the dash. Find some dirt and stomp the brakes to insure abs actually works (very expensive to fix). Check the rear locker in dirt as well (very expensive to fix). While it's on the abs light will also come on meaning abs is deactivated (this is normal). Make tight turns, the back end will feel like it's dragging and want to kick out. Finally, make sure the cruise control is working (very expensive to fix). Also, the water pump needs replacing at 100,000 mi intervals. It's a pretty expensive job to have done so you might be able to leverage with it.

I doubt that truck has ABS. Option that year.
