Would there be any calibration involved after the DIY replacement that the average Taco owner wouldn't have access to the equipment for?

Yes probably. I'd wager that paying very close attention to positioning on install would get you within the ballpark required for normal use.

Safelite does have the ability to do camera calibration when needed for their service. I would think verifying the camera *SHOULD* be inexpensive.. especially compared to this install/replacement quote.

I just put a deposit on a TRD OFF ROAD LONGBED, LUNAR ROCK with technology pkg, led headlights, tonneau cover, predertor steps, with other options, it doesn't have leather or moonroof, dealer was asking $2000 above sticker and wasn't budging...but got them to take $1000 off....another dealer called today, they have the same truck coming in but white I told them out the door price I got and they said for the white one they would match but not LUNAR ROCK....I've seen as high as $50k

OP, how about one of these used cameras and pay some TW user a few hundred bucks to install?

I don't feel you're currently in a good position to haggle with this dealer on a new truck. Maybe they will offer you a reasonable deal but please be prepared to walk away from a sale.

    Good luck.

Toyota declined my request. Here is the response from Toyota:
    ==
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. We apologize for your concern regarding your pre-collision system. Toyota strives to produce long-lasting, trouble-free parts and while we cannot predict an average life expectancy for any specific part or component, we do provide our limited implied Toyota warranty which reflects our confidence in the products we offer. According to your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), 3TMBZ5DN2JM013459, the warranty for the part you are inquiring is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first starting from the vehicle's in-service date: 03/16/2018. We have confirmed there are no recalls or extended warranty programs related to your pre-collision concern. While there are situations where we gladly look into out of warranty financial assistance requests, we are simply unable to offer any assistance due to the age of your vehicle. If we do initiate any type of Safety Recall Campaign (SSC) in the future, you will be notified directly via first class mail. We know this is not the response you were hoping to receive, and understand the reasons for bringing this request to us. The experience you have had with your 2018 Tacoma is important to Toyota, and the information has been documented under case number. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, Toyota Brand Engagement Center

Here is what I found today: one dealer ask $3000 for white/grey/black/red color, $5000 for Lunar Rock color on top of MSRP. the other dealer ask $3695 on all vehicles except new tundra and rav4 prime which are $5695. They seems don't care too much about winning your business. Yes I am in California.

Head down to your local Jeep dealer and get a Gladiator, loving mine, everything about it is nicer than my Tacoma's...... Seats, tech, power, ride (have the Mojave) etc. Haters will hate but they're just as dependable as the new Toyota crap.

Alternatively any chance of getting this camera from a junk yard and installing it?

And you don’t have to pull out the cutting torch to fit 37s, nice! My buddy has one and really likes it.

I run 35’s on my stock wheels and added 1 inch coil spacers. There was no rub anywhere, the spacer is just because I can’t leave things alone!

Tried to get into a TRD Pro but with Toyota’s snooty ways the payment somehow worked out to $100 more a month for a rig with a 10k lower price tag….. Nope!

I am a wee bit familiar with math hehe. Toyota stealers were just trying to to get the most they could, their math was not solvable from a logical and basic approach, they literally were just saying your payment will be this much, no discussions, just give us 72k + your trade.... uuuuhhhh no thanks! That 72k is just the total number from their monthly payment.

My experience in trading rigs has always been have Jeep, go to Toyota, have Toyota go to GM, have GM go to Jeep, have Jeep to go somebody else, repeat the fuckery. Customer retention and loyalty are like horse and buggy times, gone.

Not hating, just saying I did not have the same dependability experience with my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Needed a cylinder head replaced at 200 miles, and it was downhill from there. The thing spent literally half of it's first 3 months of ownership in the service department. Won't ever catch me in another Fiat Chrysler product after that debacle. That said, I do think Toyota dealerships are acting like they have gold and their shit doesn't stink, my dealer included. Problem is that they do it and people still buy, so what motivation is there for them to stop?

I believe this topic has been discussed somewhat in other threads but I’d really like to know what your options would be for living without the front camera and getting the codes cleared on the truck. If someone was fine with not having adaptive cruise or the pre collision features could you get all dash lights off and have the truck running normally. If anyone has any thoughts I’d love to hear it

After parked in dealer's lot for a week, I picked it up today without leting the dealership replace the "camera" which estimated cost $2268. Toyota declined any financial assistance given such low mileage.

From their repair note, it state: "was not able to communicate with airbag, skid control, combo meter, main body and steering angle sensor. Disconnect after market trailer brake control then was able to communicate with all modules, no communication codes are currently present. Retrieved C1AA2 for forward recognition camera. suggest replacement of forward recognition camera with sublet for axis adjustment. LDA system will remain non-op without replacement and vehicle will continue to alert malfunction."

The first repair shop was not able to establish communication either I guess they didn't realize the after market brake controller would cause issue.

When I drove home everything looks fine. There is no warning lights on dash. I guess they reset all error code. But I noticed LDA function was off. I didn't try turn it on yet.

I am considering trade in for a new Tacoma. Lunar Rock, 4x4, DCSB, off road. Tacoma got 6500 lb towing capacity can handle a Rpod trailer.

I do need to check the "aftermarket trailer brake controller" before next trip.

    That does sound terrible.

OP can get a 16 or 17 that does not have TSS without punishing himself.
