I have a 2001 Tacoma (3.4L V6, 4WD) with 199,870 miles on it. I am the third owner and bought it with 165,000 miles. As I pass 200k, I want to make sure I do proper maintenance. What is factory-recommended at this point?

Also, what should I be watching for as an indication it’s time to move on to a different truck? I don’t want to throw a lot of money into it and have it poop out on me in 6 months.

I am thinking of the following:
    • Timing belt/water pump
    • Transmission filter and fluid change

Fuel filter is an easy change if it's never been done. It's under the car on the drivers side.

Depending on what type of fluids you are using, conventional vs synthetic, you are due for all your fluids. I'd renew the following:

    1) Front Differential Gear Oil
    2) Rear Differential Gear Oil
    3) Transfer Case Gear Oil
    4) Drain and refill the Auto Trans or perform a DIY flush. The filter under the pan is a fine mesh metal filter and not a paper style filter. Some say never change it while others do. I plan on replacing mine soon out of curiosity to see how much metal is accumulated on the magnets on the bottom of the pan and whether the filter screen is clogged at all.
    5) Perform a DIY Power Steering Flush followed by a cleaning of the reservoir screen.

    Other Things
    5) Timing Belt & Water Pump Job that also includes replacing the idler pulleys, tensioner, cam shaft seals, crankshaft seal and all drive belts.
    6) As part of the Timing Belt Service, replace your Radiator, Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses and Thermostat. Of course, add new coolant.
    7) With your radiator swap, consider adding an external Trans Cooler.
    8) Grease all the zerk fittings on your front and rear drive shafts.
    9) Replace Fuel Filter
    10) Replace Air Filter
    11) Replace Spark Plugs and Wires
    12) If your valve cover gaskets are leaking and you're tired of the burning oil smell, do the valve cover gasket job as well.
    13) Clean the Throttle Body and MAF Sensor.

Here's some videos you can use to do the whole ball of wax yourself. Good Luck!

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I actually contacted corporate Toyota about 200k service. My last Tacoma I sold with 325k. If I can find the email I'll post it. But, really all they said was start over in the Toyota maintenance log.

Thanks for the info, especially the links. I've done some of what you mentioned already. Such as 1-3, 10, 12, and 13. Used synthetic fluids. I will look into getting the others done based on funds and time!

Clutch if manual will be ready to go. Check your AIC switch, vsv (was so brittle it broke), vacuum hoses, test your alternator/battery, starter, ac condenser and compressor drier/accumulator, all went on me, minus the alternator in the first 6 weeks of high mileage ownership. Probably was sitting but I’m sure most of these things probably wouldn’t last to 240000
