    Hello,

I am curious if anyone has had both the 20" and 30" and could offer real world experience on light output, energy consumption, and anything else.

    Thank you,

    Brett

Thank you. Would the amber lens reduce the actual or perceived light output?

    Hey Brett,

While using an amber lens it will reduce the light output by 15% due to the color temperature difference. I'll link you to a video with some more in-depth information regarding Amber vs. Clear. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just confirming the amp draw is 12 amps for the 30 inch S8. To save wiring I may run this of the aux battery up by the firewall on the passengers side and mount a single relay on the passengers side fender. I already have a fuse there and the wiring powers the small LED dome light in the Leer 100XR camper shell and Aux 12V power in the bed. I have never used the Aux power in the bed. I doubt I will be using a blender, powering a refridgerator, and running the light bar at the same time. Even so, I dont think I would ever pull more than 5 amps from the shell for any reason.

BUMP looking for real world experience! Is 20" S8 all you will ever need? Or is the 30" worth it?

    FWIW:

I've had both the 20" and 30" S8 on my truck. Both in the driving combo.

I also have some Diode Dynamics ditch lights (SS3 Pro in driving pattern, with a SSC1 wide mounted way on the side).

The light bar and ditch lights are wired to come on with my high beams for max lumens. The 30" bar is definitely brighter and shoots further, but I haven't been able to outrun it. Was quite happy with the 20" bar as well, but I changed my bumper and needed to upgrade to a 30" bar.

I think if I were to do it again I'd do a wide cornering light pattern next time. The driving combo shoots way down the road but it's a fairly tight pattern with a little spill on the sides. Could not imagine running a spot pattern on anything that sees the street at least not without a few other light bars on the vehicle.

If the Onx6 had backlight, I'd run a 30" in wide for sure.

Also, if you look at the BD web page, the lighting zone page is a little off in my eyes. While the S8 in driving combo might illuminate some stuff in zone 3, the main beam is much closer to spot and zone 4 in my eyes. Hence me wanting to run the wide cornering light next time around.
