I bought my truck used 2 years ago today. I currently have 22,300 miles on the odometer. I traded a 13 Sierra extended cab, 6.5 ft bed, 4X4 5.3 for the Tacoma. The Sierra was a rock solid vehicle for 9 years. I bought the Tacoma because I did not need a full size truck since I do not haul heavy loads or tow any trailers. The tacoma is about 6" narrower and 6" shorter than the Sierra. I really do love the Tacoma. This is my obervations:

    Pros:
I love the body style and stance of the truck.
I average 21 mpg in the winter, 22-23 in the summer.
So far, except for several paint chips, the overall paint ,(white), seems to be solid.
The interior controls are easy to use and well laid out.
    Power rear window!
    Composite bed
LED head lights and bed lights are very bright!
Truck is easy to park and manuever in tight spaces.
No issues activating 4X4 either in high or low range.

    Cons:
Transmission is "shifty", but I am used to this now.
Center plastic wheel cap tabs are easily broken.
Infotainment center can be slow at times, but no issues connecting to Carplay.
Annoying warning "beepers" for seatbelts, fob left in vehicle, etc.

    I have added the following:
    Interior LED lights.
Tinted front windows and added brow to windshield.
    Husky Front floor mats.
    Bed mat.
    Luckyman seat covers.
    TRD shifter.
    Offroam phone holder

I hope the Tacoma is as reliable as my Sierra. Only time will tell.....

My 2023 TRD Sport DCSB will hit the two year mark 4/1/25. Here are the issues I have had with mine and Toyota corrected all of them on there dime.

    1. Rear bumper alignment
    2. Bed alignment
    2. Rear passenger door alignment
    3. Small dent left fender near hood hinge
    4. Pinch weld looks like a kid did the spot welds.
    5. Rough idle started around 7,500 miles but corrected itself in a couple of 1,000 miles.

Everything has been corrected except the pinch welds which Toyota finally corrected with rocker covers on the 24+ TRD Pros nothing for 3rd gens. I will also mention a feather will chip the paint.

Even with all the poor quality build issues now that they are corrected I like the truck. I hope the timing cover leak, random misfire and bypass pipe leak doesn’t poke its head up.

Wow top dog! I guess I have been lucky. Only 2 visits to dealership. "Free oil change" and axle recall inspection.
Yes, a tune may be in the fututre!

A lot of people would have just lived with it but I figured I bought a new truck and that’s what I expected. Not all have the rear bumper and bed alignment issues but probably 70% do maybe more.

Check out this thread of my truck back in 2023. Look close at the ends of the bumper below each tail light.

Check out the right rear door and see the body lines.

    I have a 2017 TRD Sport DCLB
Bought it 5 years ago. She will be paid off in June!

Love the truck. For the overall look. I had always said if I couldn't have the truck I truly wanted. I would get a Tacoma. For the resale value and when I first saw the 3rd Gen come out. I've always liked the way it looked.

Typical issues as far as the shifting still bothers me from time to time. Wanna get the time but will probably trade it in before I do.

The fuel door is giving me issues. Yes! I know, I know. There is a thread about it. Lol

Final issue is: it isn't big enough anymore. 3 kids now since buying it in 2020. She is a little tight now.

I came from a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. New body style with a 5.9 Magnum. The 5.9 Magnum is my favorite motor. If the truck wasn't rusted out and had 204,000 miles on it. I would still have it.
