2.7 oil pump installation

    does anybody know if the marks on the oil pump gears need to be aligned...

    I believe the inner gear has one less "tooth" than the outer gear, so it won't stay aligned anyway as it spins, so my guess that it doesn't need to be aligned. The 1996 repair manual doesn't mention needing to align the gears. The marks may indicate that they should both be facing outward.

    Complete rebuild at 197k miles
    I didn't align mine. PACK it FULL of petroleum jelly to help it prime. picture below is what happened when it didn't prime fast enough and wasn't packed with enough petroleum jelly (i cleaned a lot to get this picture).

    Info response is two years too late...but the smaller gear mark aligns with the crankshaft key and the larger gear mark aligns opposite of the other. This is so the crankshaft pulley will slide back on and engage with the pump gear without a hassle.

    Interesting comment you made here @2000Tacomauser. Where did you get that information?

    I'm having a problem getting oil pressure after doing a ton of work on my 2000 2RZ-FE. The engine was dry of all oil when I began the first start. Had a pressure gauge, never showed any pressure at all.
