    Greetings, all!
I've referenced the forum a thousand times, but this time I'm stumped and need some ideas.

My taco (95.5, 2.7, auto, 4x4, with a distributor) had been working fine. Yesterday it started and drove me to the store like normal. Wet snowy roads. When I came out of the store it would crank, but never fire and start. I towed it to home to diagnose. Here's what I've found:

No spark. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor and the crankshaft position sensor. Still no spark.

Today I took off the cap behind the rotor and exposed what I think takes the place of the coil. Not quite sure what it is, but it's what shows up on Rock Auto under for "ignition coil".

It's cracked. Do you think that could be my problem? Does anyone know of a way to test it?

Rebuilding seats with leather from furniture and extra padding. Might put leather on the dash and other interior parts.
Take sparkplug out, gound it somewhere and crank it over, look for good spark. Pull the fuel pump fuse first so you dont flood it.

    Thanks for the thoughts!

    So here's an update:
It turns out it was a blown AM2 fuse. Must have missed it the first time I checked. So I put a new one in and it started right up!

It worked 2 times before the fuse blew again. I dug around a bit in the forums to find why it might be blowing. Someone mentioned that they had some bad o2 sensor wiring that was culprit. Sure enough, the insulation on all wires for the upstream sensor were cracked and exposing the copper. I taped them temporarily to see if that helps my problem. (No o2 codes previously, however. The sensor appeared to have been working).

After my electrical tape job and a new fuse, it started right up, but this time it threw a code: P1300 "Ignitor circuit malfunction No. 1"

I just came inside so I haven't done any research yet.

    Any preliminary thoughts?

Usually try to keep my mouth shut on what I don’t have experience with but think I remember reading here about that coil being discontinued by Toyota. Prob ol silvers post somewhere. Looks like aftermarket is available. I wonder if that crack is causing it to ground out intermittently. Could be worse when hot etc. Had a chain saw that drove me nuts trying to diagnose spark issues till I replaced the coil altogether, different but maybe same issue as here, cracked and potentially grounding out. Good luck.

@Slight27 Ha. I have the same issue today on a 1995 2.7L. The AM2 30 amp blows. Result is no spark at the plugs and no signal to the fuel pump. All other fuses good, fuel pump confirmed by running wires off the battery.

I'll check the wires on the sensor, but I am leaning more towards the "coil" failure. My dad's other 95 the coil failed on it around the same mileage (170,000). Luckily, we still have that other 95 (parts truck now) with the new replacement.

Darn. Hopefully it's an easy fix! My wires at the ignition control module look good. I wonder what the odds are that the ICM is bad or if the distributor is more likely.

It was my coil(inside distributor cap). Like I said above, that already went bad on a previous 95 2.7 my Dad owns. So, I had a parts truck here with an almost new one on it. Fired right up.

Gotcha. Did you replace the whole distributor with the coil? Or just the coil? It looks like you can buy just the coil, but I couldn't see how to take the coil out.

Whole distributor with coil. Rockauto I believe.

Didn't mean to post that twice. NGK coil is about 55 bucks on Amzon
