Depends if it overheated and what damage was done.
I guessing this are warped or broken parts.

OP, I honestly don’t know the answer you are looking for.
I’m not all that familiar with the 2tr-fe year variances.

I do know 2016+ is different.
But then you’re talking a whole different generation truck.

I would think 05-15 2.7 would be the same. The newer the better

They may be, on the 4.0 there were changes to the Air Injection system Mid-Gen.
I don’t know if the 2.7 had any changes?
More than likely if there were changes, you could swap what is needed from the old engine.
    But I’m not sure?

The 05-12 should be a sure fire swap. They changed the ecu connectors in the truck for the 13-15 trucks so im not sure if a harness swap would be required with the 13-15 engine, but i wouldnt want to find out the hard way. All 2.7Ls had the SAI pump so no need to worry about that. Id try to find a 2012 personally. I am in the same boat currently with a head gasket that is starting to go and i am starting to look for a replacement as well

Don’t thinks so, they are different engines.
Your engine has variable valve timing.
I do not think the older engines had it.

    You have a 2TR-FE engine.
    The 98 and 99 would have a 3RZ-FE engine.

Are the 5 lug 2 wheel drives 2.7 also?
Would one of these work in a 6 lug?

Most are aware of the engine/transmission change in the V6 model that came in 2016. Were changes made to the stellar 2.7 in 2016 or beyond? My gut says the 2.7's basic design remains the same. That engine is still available in the 2020.
