I have 17 tacoma 4x4 access cab 4cyl automatic .(15000 miles) Anyone ever notice hard shifting into overdrive occasionally ? Mine seems to shift pretty hard sometimes going into overdrive gears especially on hilly roads. Just curious if it is normal .

Mines actually pretty smooth, especially going into 5th and 6th.

In some of the lower gears like when I use S mode and let off the throttle right when it upshifts, some of those are real clunky and nasty.

We have the same transmissions as the V6's so they should hold up pretty good considering they're built to handle a lot more power.

Actually I’m pretty sure they are different transmissions I could be wrong though .

I'm trying to find the link but the internet is flooded with more complaints than actual information about them. There's only 2 6 speed automatics listed for the 3rd gen and the only difference is that one is for 2wd and the other is 4wd. I'll post it...eventually lol.

From what I have heard no one ever had one of these transmissions go bad or need replacing so that’s a good sign

If you look at your transmission the model number is stamped right on the front cone.

Turns out what I was looking for was posted on TW lol. The R transmissions are manuals and the ACs are automatics. The E and F stand for 2wd and 4wd.

So both the v6 and 4cyl are the exact same transmission . Good find. I know for a fact the rear end gearing is different though

Yeah we do get a 4.30 rear with our autos but my nephews access cab 4wd 5 speed manual truck has like a 3.91 rear. We also only get an 8 inch rear and the V6 gets an 8.8inch I think.

My dad has a 19 sr access cab 3.5v6 auto and the power difference is huge . Waaaay more torque from the v6 compared to our 2.7

I don't drive this truck very often but when I do I use sport until I get up on the highway and then in it's inclines i use S5 and that helps quite a bit .... Now when my wife is driving it she just let's it shift naturally and sometimes a passenger I get a little nervous when it downshifts to a low gear

Rip California how often does yours shift hard into 6th? I’m assuming this is normal for these trucks
