Another engine swap thread. So many without results...

Should I just ask Toyota if it's possible to swap this in?

Who do I need to call?

I'll ask URD. Maybe they'll know what needs to be done.

Toyota won't know anything, if anything they'll tell you it's impossible which having seen the swap done a time or two on here I know that's not true.

URD probably doesn't know what all is needed either they more specialize in upgrading the existing motors.

Engine, engine mounts, radiator shroud, trans, transfer case, and ECU and Trans Comp are probably all needed in the very least, then I would be looking for a conversion harness, it probably exists to make things mostly plug and play, re-pinning might also get you there.

You might need a fuel pump that can flow more as well.

Do you know if the 1URFE will work with the 2nd gen tacoma transmission? I know the 4.7 does

The 4.7 will, the 4.6 I am 90% sure will not, it's a much more powerful and newer engine than the 4.7.

The Lexus GX460 has the 1URFE, and being the Toyota 150 Chassis, is a much better source for everything you will need.

    Isn’t the 4.6 or 4.7 more reliability than the 4.0 V6?
I’d do it too if I had the money and time do put everything together

Not to be a creep, but how do you like those headlights in your profile pic. I like the retrofitted look without the price, but concerned about quality.

The 4.0 is very reliable and was built with a timing chain instead of a belt. A friend of mine "grenaded" his tundra's 4.7 because he didnt change the belt soon enough. To me thats a build flaw... The 4.6 is chained i believe.

So now I'll be on the look out for a wrecked LX 470 with a 4.6. I've looked on various wreck sites and apps and at least in Texas you need a broker just to purchase a donor vehicle and it's insanely expensive still considering you're buying a giant heap of non-running vehicle with broken pieces. It's like in the $10-20k range... Rich Rebuilds talks about how great a deal it is. Not for this guy. :rofl:I wish there was an easier way.

You will need the GX 460, the LX 470 is the older 100 Series HD Land Cruiser chassis and never received the 4.6 in North America.

The headlights are alright, it’s bright enough for me to see at night but they’re definitely not like the OEM ones. I sealed the seams with clear epoxy when I got it so water doesn’t get it, so I haven’t had a moisture problem yet.

I always hear people saying the 4.7 is the most reliable engine Toyota has ever made, but I guess everything from Toyota is reliable
