    Hey all,

I have never bought or owned a Tacoma before. I found a 98 Ltd edition v6 that appears to be in very good shape. No frame rust well taken care of. The price tag feels high for 200k miles but perhaps I am missing something. Could anyone take a look at the Craigslist ad and let me know if I should be haggling ?

    https://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/d/kinsale-1998-toyota-tacoma-ltd-v6-4wd/7344314294.html

I went to view the vehicle took it on a test drive. Everything seemed to be good for the 20 minutes we drove around tried out the 4 wheel drive etc.

    Thanks !
    Andy

Nope. My buddy just bought a pristine 2001 with like 60k miles for $16.5k... from a dealership.

And when I say pristine, I mean it, there's not a spec of rust on the frame. We lifted it last weekend and there wasn't a seized bolt or difficult to move part anywhere, had been garage kept and barely used.

The truck you're looking at is worth $13-13.5k max IMO, and that's only if the frame is in decent shape.

Only you know if you want and can afford that truck. No reason you can`t make a much lower offer see what happens.

Supply and demand and if the seller is in no hurry someone will come along.

It is hard to set a price for someone else when the Tacoma Lust is not effecting you.

    Time for a timing belt?

Have the lower Ball joints ever been changed??

Just how much of the mechanical work can you do yourself Trucks this old are going to need things.

That's too high for 200k miles in my opinion, but the Tacoma market is crazier than it usually is right now so it's hard to say for sure. If you pass on it someone will likely pay it.

In 2013 I sold my 1999 V6, access cab Tacoma with 190,000 miles for $8,500.00. Price on this truck is high for 20 plus year old truck. I must have given mine away. Also a buddy here in Colorado last week sold his 2010 access cab, V6 supercharged, with 50,000 miles for $18,500.00. Excellent condition, no lift, no off-roading. Only mod was the TRD supercharger by Toyota dealer.

I got my 1 family owned 04 V6 5 speed (along with being garage kept nearly its whole life and entirely rust free) with 182k for $14k, and it had quite a bit of interest in it in the 2 days it was up, per the seller. Granted it's not perfect, cruise control and heat don't work. Has every service record since new and is immaculate aside from those 2 issues.
I think 15,700 for this one is a decent price if the frame checks out and you really want it bad enough, otherwise try to bring him down a bit or just wait for another one to come along.

*and as others have said, the tacoma market (the car market in general) is much crazier than it usually is, so almost 16 for this truck might normally seem high but it's a better price than you might think right now*

And please please please, to anyone buying Tacos, be very thorough on the frames. One of my relatives has an 03 that's been in Florida its entire life, they went over the frame really well (hammer and all, like everyone recommends), but after purchase, found a small spot that was compromised and they ended up having to replace it.
Cannot express enough how important it is to be careful with these, even if the history doesn't lead you to believe there could be rust.

@Andyvclifford I bought mine in 2004 for $12,000 and it only had 97k miles on it. I now have 316,700 miles on it, and it's in better condition now than it was when I bought it. Every part I've replaced has been an original. Last week the alternator went out - replaced it with a Denso. The one thing I'll say regarding the asking price you stated; everything is negotiable.

The timing belt was changed at 130k it looks like. Not exactly timely maintenance, you will need to do it again soon at the cost of 1k unless you do it yourself. The k&n filter in my opinion could be a sign of future TB issues. No locker? Ball joint replacement, shocks look old. Too much! Buy phessor's for a better deal and upgrades. He has great documentation of his build.
