It took me awhile to figure this out, but now I fully understand. On the 2nd and 3rd generation Tacomas, you can replace front wheel bearing assemblies via unbolting & replacing hub/spindle because there are many makers of these units on-line. Bit for the 1st generation Tacoma, ... there are none out there. I wonder why, because they too can be unbolted and removed ?

The first Generation bearings need to be pressed out of the steering knuckle some do this on the truck others remove the knuckle and have the bearings replaced by someone with a press.

If you have no clue what your doing quite easy to mess things all up

I did mine after I broke one of my steering knuckles figured if I had 1 side torn apart and new I might was well do the other side. Well me being a genius I am I tried to Press out the bearings which worked but I forgot about the snap ring in there so I also broke the 1 good steering knuckle I had (an extra $450.00 screw up). Its defiantly not hard to do just don't get in a hurry and look it over good.
