    Gentlemen,

We have a 2002 Tacoma TRD that has 188000 miles that has been well maintained/serviced. The truck does have a rebuilt transmission. This is our Forever Truck. V-6 4300 motor.

We tow a 5 x 8 cargo trailer that I converted into a camper. Weight is approximately 2000 lbs. when loaded.

The truck does alright when towing on flat land, but any type of incline it totally boughs down. I am thinking about installing a Toyota Supercharger to increase that HP and need your input. I am open to all of your feedback, the good, bad, and ugly.

Thank You for your information and professional opinions.

    Magnuson Superchargers
    MP62 Toyota 5VZ-FE 3.4L V6 Supercharger System

    $3,795.00

    Fitment:
    1997-2004 Toyota Tacoma
    1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner
    1997-1998 Toyota T100
    2000-2003 Toyota Tundra
    *See Fitment Tab for Details

    Part Number: 01-62-34-003-BL

    CARB EO Number: D-488-42

Give your 4Runner, 100 and Tundra’s 5VZ-FE V6 the power it deserves with the Magnuson MP62 Supercharger System. Delivering a 25% increase in both horsepower and torque to the crank, giving you the power to have fun offroad, haul that heavy load or just get a few more jollies out of daily driving. To put that in numbers, that’s a 47hp and 55lb-ft increase over the baseline 190hp/220lb-ft. This complete system integrates the intake manifold and supercharger into a one-piece-design, which eliminate potential leak points without sacrificing key airflow design characteristics. The compact design allows it to easily fit under the hood without any modifications and lends to its like-factory appearance. Enhancing airflow, the intake runners use a tapered design and a larger plenum.

Designed to be as painless as possible, this supercharger system makes it easy to go forced induction from SMOG to the nuts and bolts. This system is a direct bolt on that can be fitted with just basic hand tools in a weekend by an enthusiast, and a pro can do it in a day. On top of that, this system is fully 50 state legal with a CARB E/O. To enhance efficiency, the MP62 uses a bypass valve system which nearly eliminates parasitic loss when cruising, so you get the added benefit of close to OEM fuel economy.

Priced extremely reasonably, this system offers great bang for the buck, because a positive displacement roots supercharger doesn’t have any of the lag of a turbo, you’ve got instantaneous power and torque across the rev-band. With Toyota-worthy reliability, ease of installation, reasonable price tag and V8 power, what are you waiting for?

I suggest reading through this thread, it has a ton of good info and started with someone asking pretty much the same question -

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3-4l-supercharger.629337/

it's got 200 pages but a lot of the good info is in the first few pages

Its a nice add-on for a little extra power but it is a rabbit hole that can get expensive quick. If you're just looking to bolt one on and go, you might still need some fuel mods to make it run right and not damage the engine. Like methanol injection, 7th injector kit or upgraded fuel injectors, standalone ECM, higher flow fuel pump, the list goes on and on. Keep in mind 91 octane minimum is necessary.

That said, some people are able to just install it as-is and run it just fine. It varies with each setup really

Also, TRD doesn't sell superchargers anymore, they discontinued it many years ago. But the TRD supercharger was just a rebranded Magnuson one that Magnuson still sells on their website.
