I always thought it was best to leave the MAF alone unless you have issues..i'm at about 151k on the original and no problems.

I might buy a spare just in case at that price. I'm in this for the long haul to 500k.

I suspect that the factory MAF sensor will last at least 300,000 miles with routine cleanings. I have thought about buying a factory MAF to "keep in stock" but I really can't justify it. I have 168,000 miles on my 2.7. I would be more suspect of components such as IAC, EGR and maybe even temp sensors than the MAF when it comes to the engine not running right.

I would have thought that a long time ago, but they are very fragile for one and for two they can make it seem like you did something if you clean them. They usually cause emissions to go crazy and you wont get a cel 9/10 times, they cause ping/knock and control shift pattern, the Supra owners know this all to well; they have the same auto trans as us and those guys tune all the time. They tell me for optimum performance change out before 100k. FWIW... theyll go way longer as others atest to, but most of you guys dont live in the Smog Star cert state California and these will have you buying o2 sensors and afr sensors to pass smog, which are as expensive. Some of yall might not notice the power loss due to a supercharged truck with fuel mods it will mask that hidden power, trust me Im on my fourth at 265k running an afe dry filter. I just ain't the one on the side of the road ever waiting on a tow, thats worse. They tell the truck how much air is coming in, and air temp and fuel delivery, so if thats not important to you dont change youre oil either. Tha IAC or temp sensors on my truck ohm out perfect at my mileage and a new maf is what fixes my truck most times I get a loss in power or exhuast is rich. Just tring to help you understand. I forgot the mention of egr if you live in a non smog state, inspection only state, block that power robber! Most of us dont even have an egr and btw a IAC will cost around 250.00 bought a new one for nothing! Dang.

With that said i should leave the MAF alone..i have a standard, no knock/ping, same power i have always had, no mods, and no emissions test where i live.

I have a 98 2.7 manual with a supercharger. Its been pinging real bad since I upgraded the boost. I have done everything I can think of to fix the issue. Do you think it could be a bad MAF sensor? I've cleaned it before. Probably the original one. 230k miles.

I would give it a shot it wont hurt, you have nothing to lose but an old sensor, and maybe alot of lost power and control over fueling. They actually do go bad trust me, and when they do you never have a code for it unless youve got an over oiled filter, the titanium wires in them are ridiculously small gauge. They imo are only good still after a few cleanings and I notice power loss and starting issues but mainly increased emissions! Not very cool.

237,000 on my original MAF sensor and I've never cleaned or changed it. I'm kinda scared to mess with it at all..... I just made a 300 mile trip to my parents for the holidays and made 19.4mpg On my 3.4 loaded down with ice chests/tools etc... "gotta replace the carrier bearing this week". I did recently replace my oil, spark plugs/valve cover gaskets, air filter, rear diff fluid, and did a tranny drain/fill. Should I really consider touching it?

If you upgraded the boost with a smaller pulley it's more than likely your not getting enough fuel or enough octane, go back to the original boost and if no ping then has nothing to do with sensor.

Great, what year is your truck?? And motor is a 3.4 v6???
    I thought 95-98 v6 was a different part number than 99-2002 v6?
The wires are different in the pin locations

So where do you find a cheap MAF mass air sensor cheap that's made by DESNO for the 1995,5-1998
    3.4 motor?

They are different animals. Mostly in form as opposed to function. The earlier units are part of an "assembly" and Toyota is real proud of assemblies. There is a way to retrofit the later one into an earlier intake. A couple of wires in the plug need to swap positions and some provision for mounting IIRC. Search around for it.
