I may start looking for a bed to replace the original one on my 1997 standard cab. Do all 1st gen beds work or are there styling differences? I know that a long vs short won't swap, but all 1st gen long beds...are they the same?

    Thanks!

There's a stepside bed, but they bolt up just the same as far as I know. But they're fugly, so don't get one of those, lol.

yes, they are all the same. Regular cab and extended cab use the same long bed. Only the double cab uses the short bed

Stepside bed can be swapped with a long bed and vice-versa

it's possible to put a long bed on a double cab, but you'll have a little fabbing to do

Good god I don't. My DC already has a long enough turning radius. Put a long bed on it and an F-18 can turn sharper...

But I guess anything is possible with enough cutting and welding. Just get a 2nd gen, lol...

Not random at all, we are, after all, talking about swapping beds... Random would be like "hey guys, you know where I can find some TRD stickers?" :D

The frames of extra cabs and doublecabs are the same (same wheelbase, etc...), but I would imagine that at least the front bed mounts are different. Otherwise, you'd have bed mounts in the extracabs being like a foot or so away from the corners of the bed.

Anything is possible with enough :sawzall: and :welder:... lol

Fabing up new front bed mounts is probably pretty easy.

I don't think I could get over how goofy that looks, though. Looks broken. We americans care much more about looks than utility, though... which is why the Aussies kept external bedhooks on their tacoma (I mean hilux) because bed hooks on a pickup are, like, you know, useful.

    To confirm, a 1st gen 2wd non-Prerunner (1998 model) would bolt right up to a 4wd (1999 model)?
