These guys both have very valid points. swapping in the 2 is probably going to end up being way too much work. You will probably be just as happy and save yourself weeks of work if you upgrade all of the internals and throw on a turbo with a lot of boost. Turbosvare fun as hell and the 2rz handles boost well. I really think that would be your best bet.

Well I'm gonna do my research, regardless I need another daily beater before I do any major mods.

Do you think they are really worth it compared to a turbo in respect to power gains?

I had a stock internal 2RZ running 18psi for almost 2 years with no problems with a GT3076R Ball bearing turbo, probably making a little over 300hp to the wheels, however I was using a standalone for engine management.

Built a full turbo motor and was shooting for 30+psi, the WG failed causing a boost spike (over 40 psi) and th short of it is I parted the motor and accessories out.

Bought an LS1 with a T56 trans and fabbed it in, now i am starting at 300horse and going up from there, going turbo soon. (Dyont even try to do it unless you have large pockets)

Your better off boosting the stock motor if you dont have much experience, however you had better know what your doing or find a friend who knows whats up to help you out.

I wish there was a definitive guide to a 2rz turbo install. List of parts, prices, etc

i personally prefer a 1j over the 2j. I did a 1j swap in my 7m and love that motor. Makes more then enough power, its lighter, it revs higher, its cheaper to build and maintain, parts are just as common as a 2j, and imo theres nothing that compares to the sound of a 1j with an open down pipe. Both motors are beasts, i just went with the 1j for those reasons. I also didnt do an engine sway between different vehicles either so my costs were a fraction of what u might spend! I hope u go for it though! Id love to do a 1j or 2j swap in my 2nd gen

They do. Most guys claim they can do just as good for less money with different parts

There's no definitive guide because every single part is debatable lol You can do better than LCE for less money though ;p
