I have a 1998 Tacoma with a 2.7 L. Does it use synthetic or conventional motor oil? I have been told both which one is it. I just got the truck.

    Either one is fine.
It does not require synthetic, but using synthetic will not hurt it.

either one is fine. I just recently switched to conventional oil after reading many articles and stuff on multiple forums of oil analysis. Synthetic wont hurt but does cost more

You'll have a tiny less wear on cold startups with the synthetic...
however the advance detergents in the synthetic may cause little additional seepage...

If it was using synthetic before...you're supposed to stay with that....

And really the best oil is same as the best coolant......its the one you change often....
