well, personally, I'd ditch the cammo covers asap... as well as the TRD sticker bling. Pretty sure the TRD package was not available in 97.

In all seriousness- You've got some checking and ensuring things are properly maintained before you get into modifications. If you don't have paper work on when the upper and lower front ball joints were last replaced, replace them. OEM parts only for ball joints. Then you'll be looking at upper and lower control arm bushings, tie rods.. steering rack.. so many things.. but the bottom line is, make sure all the 25 year old ware-parts are replaced. Plugs, wires, injectors, fuel filter, change all the fluids...

Totally agree.. I purchased my 96 in February and all I’ve been doing is updating maintenance that the previous owners never did. Water pump/ timing belt/ radiator/ thermostat/ belts all done today.

I'm the only owner of my truck, and that's all I have been doing as well. There just comes a time, when all that shit needs to be replaced.. and it's around 20 years.

Well, thank god you aren't a source of record, because these are directly in contradiction of each other. However, I don't expect you to understand the nuance of that.

If it’s a 4 cylinder and you don’t know when it’s been done, check the valve clearances.

OP I had those fender flares on my 97 the ones you have and switched to the 98-00 style ones. Though I wouldnt do it unless you get a negative offset on the wheel as in stock form it looks like the truck skipped leg day lol

Cool seeing an all manual truck! Definitely do the lower ball joints. They are known to come apart, then your wheel comes off. Keep that truck stockish and it will last forever.

    Everything but the driveshaft. B03A - 410
New ball joints, bushings, and related suspension components made my 99 ride and handle better.

I have to agree. When I got my ‘02, getting some new suspension components on there made her ride like a dream.
