Ive got a 97' tacoma 4x4 with 2.7l and i am building it to tow a small camper. Plans include installing 7pin trailer connector, trailer brake controller, transmission cooler, and reinforcing the frame.
Prior to my ownership a tree fell on the bed and bent the frame. The frame was cut and welded back together. Im a welder by profession and its the worst weld job ive ever seen. Costco refused to put my truck on a lift because of it.
I would like to fix the botched weld job and reinforce the frame. Ive heard these frames have a problem area where they are prone to cracking. Is there something i can do to prevent that? Are there any other preventative measures i can do to help prevent catastrophe on the road?

    Thanks

Post up some good pictures !!

If your a welder you should be able to think things through on your own

It is not a problem area It is the steel the frame is made from really strange I have seen some so bad the whole frame just goes soft and feels dead yet not that many holes yet . Nothing to weld to like some strange exotic metal.
