Will do! apparently these engines are hard to find. Rare as hen's teeth.

I searched carparts.com and they only have 1 available with unknown mileage and its 150 miles from me.

Marketplace I found a guy who claims to have a bunch of tacomas and 4 runners and is sending me all these photos but so far he doesnt have exactly what I need apparently.

22R and 22RE are great engines but unfortunately are not going to swap with your truck.

I used to swap engines for a living and if something came in already dismantled I knew it would be a pain to reassemble and probably have missing or broken parts. Plan on the job taking extra time and charge accordingly.

Thanks! yea I agree. These engines are HARD to find. as the other guy said I guess I am looking for a 2RZ engine from a 95-96 Tacoma 2.4. The guy on facebook marketplace I found said he has a 2.4 from a 95 but none of his phots show this so far.

    Stock again- rip slug

looks like a 3rz but i think u can drop one in. dont think mounting points or anything is different, but @Tour991 can verify. IIRC there's only longer stroke between the two

There is no difference when it comes to size or mounting. I am still running a 2rz in my 97 even though I swapped the frame to a 4x4 frame. Even the trans mounts up to them with zero issues.

There seem to be plenty of the 2.7 engines available, why not put one in for more horse power.

Is the 2.7 a direct swap? Also what years would be a direct swap if so.

With the 2.7 you need a new ecu, the harness, intake, exhaust, and motor mounts are the same.

I ask because my friend said he is open to swapping in a 2.7 but he wants to know EVERYTHING we need. Is it literally just the ECU? or we need wiring harness? or starter/bell housing adapter/ etc etc.

    Any help is appreciated.

No actually these engines are easy to find....
reman short blocks are every where both 2.4 and 2.7.
I purchased reman short block and new heads....

It's the head you have to get right.....some only work with efi....
and others have the knockout for adding the distributor...
also has to be the 8 port intake if used pre 2001's I believe..

I have a 98 sr5 and the new heads I ordered had that knockout out...
so the mechanic had to plug it for my 98...

Also the 2.7L that we took out ......was running just find on a.......
2.4L ecu !!!!!!!!! Ran for years like that.....

So as long as the tranny's are same...dont think it makes a difference.

But the motor mount brackets were a little different going from 2.7 to 2.4...
slightly longer.......and those brackets were PIA to find right ones...
So I'd recommend sticking same size block back in...that is the 2.4...
The 2.7L wouldn't give any more power....the balance shafts in 2.7 rob that...
