Have a 22RE with 51K four speed. Got some rattle noise and took it to a repair shop and was told the motor might be shot or the fly wheel could be loose. any idea what a rebuild costs if the worst happens. Thanks

    Is that a replacement engine?

51K really? I have an 86 22R, I replaced my timing chain at 180,000 and am currently 345,000 on original motor. The 22R motor is pretty solid, I would start with the simpler things before looking at a full rebuild.

The reason I asked is because they didn't put 22RE engines in 86 Hiluxs. Don't think they went FI (22RE) until 1989?

I had one issue with my 94 Hilux, which was the cogs on the timing chain lost some teeth. But I already had the "dual roller" timing chain conversion kit from LCE. Once that went on, the engine was probably good to go for 1,000,000 miles.

The motor is in a Sunrader motor home. vin is 1986. Makes a rattling sound that the repair shop says it sounds deep in the motor?

86 was the first year. You could get 22r or 22re later in the year.
