Welcome to my boat boat build. Like my taco my whaler was a complete build from the ground up. I bought from the guy across the street and my moms house (she lives in a beach town) Any ways it was in pretty bad shape when i got it. Hull rotting, no motor, transom cracking, paint faded, mahogany cracked and sun damaged. Basically boat was totaled. No Motor etc. Enjoy my process of bringing this old boat back to life.

I bought the boat from the neighbor for $800 bucks.

First thing i did was strip the interior.

Next, i prepped the hull for paint with some wet edge primer. Sanded down and applied another coat. Then came Wet edge in Boston whaler blue.

Next i used bonding agent to clean up rotten wood along the edges of boat and sanded until smooth and hard.

After the top paint and edges were done it was time to tackle the the bottom Used more bonding agent and sanded until flush with boat.

Once bonding was finished and holes were patched i used wet edge bottom side paint and wet edge top side on the underside for the bottom. Portion of boat actually resting in water had bottom side paint applied to it. So where the water line was.

    Turned out Beautiful!

After the Core of the boat was finished it was time to tackle some wood work. I ordered some new pieces and repurposed some others. I made the back seat higher so it wouldn't kill my back and also rearranged the interior.

After wood work was done, I put it all back together. Got some new electronics too. New throttle and trim along with a 25hp 4stroke mercury . New and repurposed stainless steel hardware.

    In '75 I bought a '62 Whaler with a '72 manual start 40hp Johnson.

Did a similar rehab to you, except I had it re gel coated. And the wood was good enough for a pattern, but that was it. So all new mahogany bits that a HS shop teacher assisted me with at the shop in the evenings.

    Great boats! Enjoy!
