I’m thinking of buying a Kimber 1911. It has the “dovetail” to mount a red dot and was wondering if anyone has a 1911 with a red dot mounted on it. Pictures would be great as well as manufacturer name.

It has a dovetail mount or the slide is cut for an optic?

The pistol has the dovetail cut. I’m just wondering if there is an optic made with the dovetail. I don’t want to have to add an adapter, making the optic sit higher on the slide.

The only one I know of offhand that incorporates the iron sights with the optic is the Springfield AOS 1911s. The AOS mounting plates all have the rear sight machined into the adapter to ensure the appropriate height on the optic.

I'm setting one up now but I haven't gotten it all together yet. Still waiting on the adapter plate to come in on Tuesday so no pics until then.

I believe that one requires an adapter plate

The slide on a 1911 is pretty narrow and will need an adapter plate to run optic like an RMR. My Springfield and Staccato require an adapter plate. Springfield Armory has a new line of optic ready 1911 if your not dead set on Kimber. Link here https://www.springfield-armory.com/aos/

Here my Springfield with an AOS cut with RMR.

Double check me but I found that Kimber used a couple of different dove-tail cuts for rear sights depending on model. I found this out when looking to replace a fixed with an adjustable rear sight. What they use is non-standard for 1911's whichever. It was a pain and I actually delayed purchasing as getting "good" information on the internet was confusing.

I just bought my first 1911 DS 9MM with the springfield prodigy 4.25" this year, and she's one of my favorite range toys. 507 comp with an AOS RMR plate. Just be mindful of what you are buying, make sure it's cut for a red dot. Most 1911s off the shelf aren't optics ready and require a custom milled slide and an optics mounting plate. Sig 1911-x series (carry/full) come optics ready from the factory. A couple springfield are too

    Needs pics.

    You want low mount.

RMR seems the best for 1911s/2011s for the narrow slide.
