    2nd Gen.Tacoma: Ownership experience over 18 years

In 2005, I bought a new Toyota Tacoma Pre-runner, 4 liter V6 automatic with 2 wheel drive and here is what’s happened so far:

It’s is gone about 180,000 miles and never been serviced by a professional mechanic and it has always lived outside. The last 8 years have been on the rough, salt and snowy roads of Ohio. It has towed boats, cars and trailers and been driven by teenagers learning to drive - scars to prove it but no hard hits.

So how has it fared you may ask?

The short answer is the engine has been a rock. And the other stuff? Not so much - for a rundown….

    Crap started happening at ~110-180k

110k U joint on the driveshaft at the rear differential.

    150k Ignition coil on #1

    156k left front wheel bearing

    160k ABS controller

    160k Shifter cable

    100- 170k fan switch/cruise control/CD player/compass/temp

Other maintenance stuff : tires every 50k ( I now just keep the Blizzaks on), brake pads every 50k, shocks/struts at 150k, and oil changes every 4K, transmission fluid every 60k, differential oil at 60k.

Got rustproofing on the move to Ohio. Did it myself for a couple of years but couldn’t get inside the boxed frame rails so went with Ziebart. No visible rust so far.

I share this information for those interested in buying one. Good luck.

    Steve
