My Tacoma started leaking fuel from the bottom line pictured. It seems the sleeve on the fuel line forward of the tank was wrinkled from whoever did the fuel pump TSB. My question is can I just peel back that sleeve and seat it back in this plastic junction? I really don't want to take it to the dealer and have them hold my truck or have my truck down but I also don't want a fuel leak. The hard line is steel and it seems just the coating is what's causing it not to seal.

Yes I've seen that coating cause a fuel leak. (im a dealer tech)

You can do it yourself but they caused the leak it should be fixed by them.

Also did you remove the secondary locking cover? It goes over both fuel lines as a lock.

Yes it unclipped very easily. So instead of replacing the whole entire line can I just remove the coating and reinstall it?

    Yup its what I've done.

As a precaution for corrosion I spray a touch of undercoating on it. It's awful for the next person but it prevents any rust build up.

Thanks! I'm probably going to do this as I don't have time for the dealership shit show especially working a crazy shift with conflicting hours.

10 minute fix in the parking lot. It worked! I'm going to coat that bare portion in the morning before I go to bed. Thanks y'all!

I have a similar same leak. It looks like a hole blew through the sleeve. I plan to take it to the dealer on Monday but am wondering if it is safe to drive the truck with the leak?

I think I managed to stop the leak. I unscrewed the gas cap to depressurize the tank, disconnected the fuel line, peeled back the sleeve and then reconnected the fuel line. Everything seems to be fine, but I still plan to take the truck to the dealer because the problem shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Fulton246 I have the same exact issue. Like you, I should have used my brain bucket. I did not depressurize the line like you did. Instead i just pulled out the line… big mistake. However, I pushed it back in and problem solved

Oh yeah, definitely have to depressurize the system or fuel will spray out like like a pressure washer. Glad you got it solved.

I have the same exact issue here as Fulton246. Is the sleeve that is busted something I would be able to fix on my own. If so, any direction on the part I need or a sub that can be used. Thank you in advance!

There is black plastic sleeve over the fuel line. See post #8. No need to replace the sleeve.

My truck (2017) sat in the airport parking lot for 6 days and the it leaked fuel from this exact location the first time I drove it. It's never done that before. I cleaned the area thoroughly, inspected the connections for any obvious damage or corrosion, twisted the female connectors back and forth a few degrees (they won't move very much) and then reinstalled the clip that holds the lines in place and guards the quick connects. After a couple of trips, there are no more fuel leaks. This will be something to watch, especially the next time I have to park the truck for a while. I never had this problem on my 2010, which also sat for weeks without being used. I use name-brand fuel, so I'd be surprised if that's the cause. Probably the o-rings getting stiff with age (kind of like me :) ) and not sealing well if the pressure bleeds away over time then suddenly comes back when the truck is restarted after sitting for a week. I will say that there is no way the fault could be with the male, metal line, which is what goes up to the engine - so Toyota claiming this line needs to be replaced (as mentioned in a similar thread) is hogwash.

Do you by a chance have part number and where to order required parts?

So my fuel lines started leaking also do to the fuel pump recall replacement and I seen where you can peel the coating off the lines and put it back together and be fine but of course when I did it the one line still leaks! Any suggestions on what to do now? 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road.

take it back to the dealer, there is a TSB for repaired trucks that experience fuel leaks. You should have received a letter in the mail. Hopefully your repair work is not the source of blame from the dealer.

You know since I touched it they will blame me and charge me for the repairs.
