    Hello all,
1st post for me. After purchasing a 2021 Limited NightShade Edition I was interested in upgrading my wheels and tires. The Limited series comes with an 18" 7.5 wide rim with a 265/60r18 tire. After looking at as many threads on here as I could, I went ahead and started with the TRD lift kit from Toyota which I installed with a friend of mine. Once that was done I bought some TRD 17x9 inch 0 offset rims and some 285/70r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I was concerned that I would have to do extensive modifications to the body or fenders or at least replace the upper control arms but that all was unnecessary. The only thing I had to do was remove the front mud flaps. The control arms still have an inch of clearance, there is no rubbing/scrubbing. My truck is 4x4 but does not have the locking diff. I bought this truck for very mild off-roading and for trips to Colorado in the snow. If I were to do more off-roading I think replacing the upper control arms would be appropriate, but for me the truck came out looking pretty good and I thought I would share for anyone else wanting to do the same type of upgrade.

I'm considering doing the exact same setup but with a -12 offset. Would I need to do CMC?

Would love to see pics OP. The other thing was wondering is how much tire stretch there would be with a 17x9 wheel with 285's.

-12 is going to push the tire out far enough that it is going to depend on how big of a tire you run. If you are looking to run 285's you will very likely need to remove the mudflaps, modify/remove the airdam and more than likely need the CMC.

Thanks, i've decided to go with a 0 offset 17x8.5 with 285/70r17. Will this rub with a 2 inch lift?

You will likely still need to modify the airdam and mudflaps, but you might get away without needing the CMC. This is going to majorly depend on how you use the truck. If you are not off-roading or seeing full suspension articulation, you should be okay.

We can help a little further, pm on the way.

Sorry guys, not sure how to post a worded reply with pictures but above are some pics of my truck with a zero offset 17x9 285/70r17 ridge grapplers on a Toyota TRD pro Lift. I have no rubbing or scrubbing of the tires. Junkyard you can see with the 9 inch wide rims, there really isn't any tire stretch. Hope this helps. I'm just learning how to post on here so it takes me a little while to respond.

I did have to remove the front mud flaps but not the rears. No CMC or any other modification was needed. The TRD Pro Lift is a 2 inch lift also. You should be fine. I have a 5 inch backspace Rim.

@junkyarddogg Looks like Marshal4 is running this setup. For a direct comparison, a 9" wheel with a 5" backspace is a 0 offset. So the 8.5" with 0 offset would sit almost exactly where his does except the your wheel would be 1/2" narrower. Roughly 1/4" (6mm) on each side.

Thank you @Marshal4 for the details and photos, truck looks fantastic!

I’m going with this same setup (17x8.5, 0 offset) - in fact heading to Discount Tire in Hillsboro this afternoon for some used BFG TA/KO. 3.5” lift and I’m hoping no issues with rubbing.

Here’s before / after. I was STOKED to find a full user set of these BFG’s. The salesman said he knew the story on the tires and they only had ~50 miles on them. They look brand new.

If those are actual TRD wheels I believe the offset is +4…Idk, maybe Toyota is making a 0 offset now though?

Truck looks great! I love the look of the Nitto Ridge Grappler - it’s one of my favs.

We agree, truck looks great, thank you for posting photos. Sounds like you found a needle in haystack on the tires, glad our store was able to take care of you.
