Well upon on multiple research and asking around friends I've finally excited landed my decision on a titanium 17x8.5 0mm offset 4.75" backspacing, since that's what my friend with his 2007 got and is what Tacomaworld members are recommending.

Per the tire shop, they won't fit. Looks like it'll rub the suspension components and the studs are too short? They gave them back to me and recommended a -12mm. What are your thoughts? Posting some photos of the wheel fitment. I'm just very surprised to hear the news after combing through the internet.

Tires are wildpeaks falken AT3W 255/80/17. Running 5100s, 887, and JBA UCAs

    Thanks y'all, appreciate it

You do need the extended length lug nuts. Available many places but I have wheelers offroad to have the best prices. They can also be purchased from Method. I use Method 701's 17x8.5 4.75" back spacing with 285/75/17 KO2's. I am using JD Fab upper arms. Did they say there was any contact with suspension components?

Got it, thanks. Well I guess more research now.

Yeah that's what the tire shop said. I edited my post to include my suspension set up (5100s, 887, JBA UCAs). Surprised to hear that I suppose. I am currently running stock 17" sport wheels with 1.25 spidertrax spacers

You should not need the spacers. I would check with JBA and what do they recommend it does not say on their web site.

Appreciate that dhrracer you're ahead of me. I just got a phone call from method wheels and they were equally baffled since my tires should be within specs and he did mention the lug nuts too. He recommended to get in touch with JBA.

Will be getting in touch with JBA and see what they think. I'll round back as soon as I hear from them, thanks Tacomaworld!

The other thing to consider is a narrower wheel. At 8.5" wide that Method wheel is the widest Falken approves for a 255. Falken is showing a 7" wide wheel is the nominal width.

Did the tire shop specify where the rubbing occurred? Since there are no tires mounted, and based on your pictures, it looks like the contact point might be the brake line bracket attached to the spindle? This can sometimes be bent for clearance, depending on the scenario. It's a little curious that a decent tire/wheel shop wouldn't know that Method wheels on Tacomas usually require longer/smaller diameter lugs.

Yeah I did linger on the 8.5 in wheel, I know that's the max but looking online many people report being fine with fitting 255s on them (and much better wheel options in that size).

Correct vikingforge, very odd indeed. They did not specify exactly where it would be rubbing but did mention JBA as one of them

Check out this awesome response from method wheels. Looks like everything should work. Will be making an order on extended lug nuts and find a different tire shop.

Looking at my pics you have a good idea. I'll get the bracket bent a bit. Thanks man

Just be certain you aren't compromising your braking system in the process!

    I don’t get it. I have method 17x8.5 4.75” BS without issue.
Ran 33 now on 35. Both tall skinny.

Just added spidertrax 1.25 to get it farther away from hitting the frame and tub.

question is what is that bracket bolster to the spindle close to the inner rim and is it installed in the correct position.

according to Method it’s supposed to fit.

I don’t know if the 17x8.5 is actually the best. They have a 17x9 that I believe is wider offset that can potentially avoid buying spacers and the added pain of torquing them.

Your tire shop is jumping the gun, before even mounting the tires and then looking.

Good to know, your comment is reassuring thank you. I would've gotten a 9" but wanted to stay within specs (I've heard of ppl running skinnies on them with no issues though).

Yes, the bracket should be in the correct position. I did mess with the right side to replace a failed lower brake line but here's a photo in case if anyone catches something. It matches my left side that has been left alone except for replacing with a longer brake line.

I don’t know about spec. Any tire not 265 65 17 is not spec. Etc.

technically spec for a bigger tire is probably a wider wheel and 1/2” is not much difference. Spacers are not spec.

spec is throwout bearing made of poop.

Well here's an update! Took them to a 4x4 shop and they were puzzled why the other tire shop has "issues". They've been mounted and I am super happy with them!

I'm running Method Wheels, 17x 8.5 with 0 offset, SPC upper control arms, 883 springs, and Bilstein 5100's with no issues what so ever.

Yep 5110, 887, mid dakars. However my front lift isnt 2" as advertised since my 75 lb skids are pulling the front down quite a bit
