16" TRD bedlock baja wheels on 2021 TRD Off Road

Hey - so I hate the look of my stock off road wheels and found someone selling the 16" TRD baja wheels that I do not believe they make anymore because they were originally made for the FJ cruiser? I think that is accurate but not sure.

Anyways, before I make a really long drive this weekend to get these, what do I need to know? Can my current tires that fit the stock rims fit on these? Are spacers needed? How do I get the PSI sensor to work on the new wheels? How much does it generally cost to switch tires to new rims and get everything balanced?

    https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota__...-Style-Alloy-Wheel/69529043/PTR1835090GR.html

^those are the wheels I am considering driving a few hours to go buy this weekend to put on my tacoma. I know they fit but what adjustments do I need to make?

Any feedback would be appreciated, sorry for the inexperienced post.

Assuming you still have the factory size tires on your truck, the baja's will work just fine, no spacers or anything needed, just straight swap over.

Tire shop costs will vary, but just call around or check some websites for their price to swap over a set of tires. If they are paying attention, they'll put the sensors back into the wheel location that they came from, and you can just drive away easy-peasy. If they don't, the method to reprogram is in the owners manual. Note that they may charge you for new seals for the TPMS sensors, but that's a minimal cost.

The TRD Beadlocks are a beautiful wheel - worth the drive in my opinion! Post some pictures when you get them!

Make sure you re-use your truck's TPMS sensors. If these wheels happen to come with TPMS sensors they will not work for the 3rd gen truck since the 3rd gen truck has sensors that read actual PSI, not just high/low.

Also, the lug nuts are different for the beadlock wheels. They require tuner-style spline drive lug nuts.

This is the Toyota kit, which is made by McGard. You can likely find a set of McGard / Gorilla lugs that work for cheaper, but this is a quick and easy "you know it works" solution.

    https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota__Tacoma/TRD-Wheel-Installation-Kit/69529139/PTR2735100.html

Expect to pay in the range of $20-30 / wheel to have them mounted and balanced depending on general cost of living in your area. I've had them on two different Tacomas and love them to death.

Thank you both for your replies. The wheels come with the proper lug nuts for them, but no sensors of any kinds so I will be sure to have the sensors taken off of my stock off road wheels for them.

Both of your replies basically were the confirmation I needed to go through with the trip/purchase - so thank you both for that!

as said before, they'll mount right up with in place of your factory wheel, since you have the factory tire size.

As far as cost...will probably be about $100 to have em mounted and balanced. I find it's usually about $20-25/tire.

As some trivia...the graphite finish was originally made for the TRD Bajas introduced in 2012. You can usually still find the black or bronze ones widely available, but the graphite ones are harder to come by as I believe most dealers will require the appropriate vin to order them, not just sell em to anyone. Good find, I had em on mine before I upgraded!

So I'm getting the black ones, but I believe they are all special order with only FJ VIN now. I have called all over, which is why I am willing to make this drive to go get them. I have even ordered online before I realized this to have my orders cancelled and refunded.

Glad you found a set tho, they're a great looking wheel in whichever color

Thanks! Wanted Bronze for the Army Green, but black will do just fine. You don't happen to have your old wheels you want to sell do ya?

I tried to get them in 2012 and it was impossible. At the time even members on here had trouble getting more than a single at a time, even with a fake VIN and/or connections. I actually offered a parts guy $100 if he'd get me a set and said it wasn't even a case of whether he wanted to take the risk, he said it was just impossible. At one point certain regions were requiring a police report and/or photos of a damaged piece. I settled for black and got the last set TRDParts4U had and actually ended up buying a spare 5th wheel in black a few months later as a just in case.

When I ended up needing a new truck, since I had the 4th wheel I bought a set of 4 in black for cheap since they were no longer VIN restricted. There came a point I decided I wanted to mount them up and happened to see a set of gray ones on my color truck. I knew I had to make the switch and sold my black set for a $100 loss and grabbed a set of (5) gray ones. It's a shame they're going out of production. I have changed my winter wheels every year as my tastes change, but those wheels will always be my three season wheels, I love them that much.

Yeah i believe when first released, they were really restricted to Baja vins for the graphites, and pro vins for the black/bronze. Then it loosened up after those production years ended, and now supply is tightening up again since they aren't making them anymore.

Honestly I kinda regret selling my wheels looking back, but i needed to at the time to fund some other mods so it's not all bad lol. Plus I was getting lowballed for them left and right by people who thought they could snag em anywhere they wanted, so I was just happy to offload em for a decent price.

Of course. I got $800 for my set, but they were BNIB. I'm likely changing up my winter set for the 5th(!) time since I bought the truck, so I'm on the lookout for something different. I'm hoping to find someone selling a set of Rock Warriors cheap, but I don't see that happening. Realistically I'll end up with Sport wheels for this set.

My recollection was the bronze was an accessory wheel, anyone could get those. Black was the TX and TX|Pro and then the FJ Trail Teams and the grey obviously was the Baja. If they hadn't put the TRD Exhaust on the TX|Pro I might have gone that way, or if they had run a 265/75 on the Baja. Oh well, it all worked out in the end.

That is crazy. Not sure why toyota would be so strict on all this. The only cool part about toyota being so strict is that they are rare as a result. That's about it.

In theory it keeps the "Halo" truck special. Or it keeps people who want one specific part from buying the part and putting it on their truck and instead buy the halo truck. Like, take the 3G TRD Pro halogen lights. They were $900 a side. The non-Pros were significantly cheaper. There's no additional / better technology in the lamp, but they're attempting to make it cost prohibitive from making a clone.

ah yes, i believe you're right regarding the bronze. that was available for purchase for anyone.

I still consider going to get a bronze set, as I love bronze. but the stock specs just aren't quite enough for the stuff I've done to the truck.

Well I think it was primarily to protect the owners of the appropriately designated vehicles. Don't think they wanted a bunch of non-TRD people buying up the wheels, and not having them in stock for TRD models that need replacements for whatever reason.

it is a bummer they're stopping production now though :(

I got 5 graphite from a local dealer a year ago with no questions asked but from what I've heard they are getting really hard to find now in any color. Mine had a production date of late 2019 so they were still making them somewhat recently.
