For starters, I am not well versed at all when it comes to rims/wheels, so please don't judge...

That said, I was hoping to put a a set of basic black steel 15" wheels and some 31/10.5/15 tires on my stock suspension 2002 4wd (stock setup is 265/70/16). At the first place I went to the friendly and helpful guy behind the counter told me that none of their steel 15" offerings would work. Apparently this is because any offset would result in tire rub, and their brands did not offer steelies without an offset that will work on my Taco because the brake caliper would catch.

Before I abandon the idea, does anyone know of some cheap & basic steel wheels that would work on my truck in a 15" without offset?

    Thanks.

Pretty likely that no high offset 15" wheels will fit due to caliper clearance. The only high offset steel wheels you'll likely find would be factory steel spare wheels.

I never tried any of the GM wheels with the same bolt pattern perhaps.

I do know any of the earlier Toyota steel wheels are tight against the caliper.

To the point the truck will not move quite embarrassing .

I had thought of using a junk caliper to see if enough material could be removed just never got around bought more Toyota Aluminum 15" and called it good

My 15" zero offset wheels with 31/10.5/15 tires came with mine when I bought it recently. I'll have to get back to you on finding out what brand etc. they are but they look like this. I'll also have to double check that the previous owner didn't remove any caliper material as well. Looks pretty close to the caliper, but no rub.
IMG_6320.jpg Can definitely be done though. Mine is '97 but should be the same for yours

Thanks for the pic. Yours are aluminum; from what the guy at the shop told me, there are definitely aluminum options that will fit with a zero offset, it's apparently just steel options that are limited and/or unavailable.

If I can't find steel wheels to work though I might just go aluminum. I do like the look of yours, so if you could find out the make model I would really appreciate it!

Oops, my bad! Any particular reason you're looking for steel specifically? Cost I assume?

Cost a little bit, but more so aesthetics. I’ve always loved the simple look of the gloss black d-slot steel rims. I like the look of yours a lot too though, so that would be an acceptable option too.

I think mine were painted black at some point actually by the previous owner. If you end up with alloys and want to paint 'em, use enamel paint to get a nice gloss and super durable finish.

I appreciate it, but I like a certain look. Similar to the d-slots.

Are the spare tire wheels something like what you are looking for? While mine are 5 lug, I did 'collect' a set then added the trim rings for a bit of retro look.

    They are alloy.

I'm a little confused by your comment saying "They are alloy"? Were you correcting my comment saying aluminum?

You can run them but you will need a 1/4” spacer in the front to clear the calipers.

    Yes.

Its also worth considering that alloy is stronger and usually lighter than the same size in steel.

If you can find the look you want and correct fitment, alloy can be finished to look steel.

"alloy" and "aluminum" are synonymous when talking about what wheels are made of.
