Just finished my 3rd tank of gas, ECM said I got 23.5MPG, real world math was 22.7MPG. Fwiw this was on 87 octane, mixed city/highway driving and being pretty gentle on the gas pedal.

cant beat 23 mpgs for a v6 4x4 truck, looks like the Engineers at Toyota knew what they were doing with the 3.5l engine and 6 speed auto trans combo.

Summer blend should be arriving shorty, combined with higher temps and most people should see 1-2 mpg better unless you live somewhere where it's warm all the time. :luvya:

drove home from work today and drove 37 miles mostly all hyw but 2 miles and today kept it at 65 to 67 all the way. I have been running it at 65 to 75 and getting about 20. I got 26.1 on way home today. Unreal difference. I will also say I was going north with south wind at 10 to 15 mph, but still. I was real happy

that is where the Colorado diesel I had shined. it could do 85 all day long and never drop a gear and still get 25 mpg.

Well an update for myself. I'm not sure if it's the gas or the truck getting better, but I'm up to about 20mpg now. My commute is mainly highway for what it's worth .

I picked up a TRD exhaust used for my TRD Off road, and my mpg actually increased by 1mpg. I saw 21 hwy avg for first time, and am now at 20 combined. Before install I was averaging 18.9hwy.

Op sorry to say lots of the same complaints here about mpg and lack of power. It is not just in the mountains either. These trucks can't handle a head wind without dropping gears at 65 mph on the highway on flat ground. The mpg is a big complaint as well. For a truck with no power that gets worse mpg then a full size. I love my truck and just deal with it the bad mpg. I actually drive my truck in S4 all the time as well. I love .5 mpg or so this way though.

I think what you did to your truck, is why you have complaints.

You must be new. You might need to read a little more on this forum then.

I came out of a 1/2 ton GMC, 5.3L, so I knew going in that power loss was going to be a factor. I bought a 6 spd manual to help alleviate the loss. Pulling my 14' trailer loaded, I'll get 14-15mpg. Commuting to work, the computer has me averaging 17.9. That's 70 miles round trip, with 90% @ 70 mph+. (Averaged 15-16 in the GMC)

Would I like to get better mileage? Sure, who wouldn't. But you've got to be realistic in your expectations. Maybe someday Toyota will build a truck with 500+ ft. lbs. of torque, that'll come standard with 35" tires, and get 40 mpgs..... a Taco-prius, if you will.

The next gen Tundra will likely have some sort of hybrid system in 2020.
