2017 Truck, two tanks of gas so far and 50/50 city highway driving. Sure, not enough to a better understanding of fuel economy but this is just brutal. Anyone else have this?

Yes, many. I suggest looking through the first 2 or 3 pages in this forum, or searching. Many points and possibilities discussed.

Your trucks engine is still breaking in, once you get some miles on it (1-2k) you will see your fuel economy go up.
The ECU needs some time to learn but it should be "learnt" ;) by now.

Don't forget idling is 0 mpg. Since you live in cold weather.. doing a lot of warming up prior to driving?

My break in period wasn't that bad.

Figured as much. I read other threads of people's poor MPG and many issues were discussed. It's just eating gas so badly and I am not new to vehicle ownership or new cars.

I think all these crazy MPG post are best case.
Overall the 3.5 gets about 1 mpg better than the 4.0.
But that does seam really low with a stock truck.
But MPG will suck for the first 5K or so.
Plus cold weather and winter gas you should be around 15-17.

That's how I feel... Maybe 1-3 MPG when the vehicle is breaking in but this is brutal. $25 to drive 100km's today. That's terrible...

Mine has been getting 19 to 20 mpg from day 1 until now at 2600 miles. Its more likely driving habits, weather and fuel formulation.

I drive 18 miles highway at 65 mph and maybe 3 miles city. Keeping rpms between 1500 and 2k in town, light acceleration. At 65mph, I lose about 1 mpg for every 10 mph headwind. I have significantly reduced economy for the first 3 to 5 minutes while the powertrain warms up.

This is winter fuel formulation. I am hoping for 20-22mpg once summer gets here. My other vehicles have always suffered 5-10% in the winter.

Yup. Not a significant difference between the '12 I had and the '16 now. Purchase my 12 in Feb 2012 and October 2015 to present has been the 3rd gen.

the 4.0 Runners I've had eat gas for the first 20K, my Tacoma never got better after 10K.

So you need to get at least 5K on it.

My 08 and my 15 were the complete opposite, the first 2 tanks of fuel were the best they ever got.

Oh for sure I know that... but this is complete shit fuel economy... I will give it another couple thousand km's and see how it goes. But this isn't acceptable... none of my new cars have been that much different once they break in.

That seems odd. Mine has consistently been at 17-20 mpg since day 1, and I got it with 4 miles on the odo. I now have 2600 miles on it and get 18-20 with winter fuel. In the summer I averaged 19.5 to 23 mpg.
