I ordered the 12volt.solutions remote start kit for my 2011 Tacoma with immobilizer as part of the Black Friday deal they did this year.

My wife took the kids out of town on a Thursday and I thought, "great! I'll get my remote start installed." So after work, I took the dash apart and followed the instructions meticulously. The only "trouble" I had with the connections was getting to the connector that goes to the lock in the door, but even that wasn't super hard.

I get to the part about programming the module. You're supposed to press and hold the button on the module while you connect the big black connector. You should get two red lights. That happens as expected.

You then turn the ignition to the "on" position (but do not start the truck). I get the green light as expected.

At this point, you are supposed to remove the key. Then reinsert the key and start the truck. Wait about 10 seconds. Press and hold the brake pedal down. Press and release the button on the module. You are supposed to get a red light, but that does not happen. At that point, you release the brake pedal and the red light runs green indicating a successful programming.

So, of course, I tried calling their customer support and received a message that "we are extremely busy due to volume of orders, but our staff is working overtime to address all the inquiries. Please send us an email for fastest response, but don't send more than one as that will cause delays for your support case and everyone else." (or something to that effect)

So I send them an email on Thursday, December 10, 2020. I get an automated response that they have received my inquiry and will be in touch within 24-48 hours. Since then it has been crickets. No email, no phone call, no voicemail. I highly doubt they are that busy. At this point, I'm not overly impressed with the customer service. I'm hoping that one of the big brains on TW has experience and might be able to assist.

Per @E-Paz 732NJ in this post:

If anyone needs to reset their module, here are the instructions. If you can’t get big connector out, pulling the fuse works too

Any chance you have these instructions still? Mine did not come with any. Just a link to their website.

Edit: I think I may have found them. Will post them for other's reference if they work.

Ok, I followed the steps to soft reset the module. I had the same outcome as before, but decided to proceed as others have described the same situation.

Module will lock/unlock the truck as expected, but does not remote start the truck.

Did the soft reset. Followed the instructions. Can use the 12volt.solutions key fob to lock and unlock doors, but not to start the truck.

After another email to 12volt, I finally got a response.

It appears as though I need a brake adapter and they are mailing one out to me. :fingerscrossed:

Don't take their slow response as normal. I've contacted them a few times with issues at some odd times, and I got an almost instant respsone.

Brake adapter arrived yesterday. Hoping to get it installed today. No instructions provided. Hopefully, it all makes sense when I take everything apart again.

Double Din Sterio and 12 Volt Solutions remote start
I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma and I ordered my remote start… I installed it and it wouldn’t start. I did a hard reset so I could reprogram it. I followed all the steps and got the same results as before. When I went to plug in the main ignition harness you hold the button till it starts blinking red, let go of button and it’s supposed to turn green. Mine stayed solid red. To fix that I hit the button and the light went off. I finished all the steps and set up my remotes and tested to see if the remote starts worked. My Truck will lock unlock and start my truck all because I hit the button to get the light to go away. I hope this helps y’all. Good luck
These are the steps to hard reset!
    Lets hard reset the module:

Remove Main IGN Harness or fuse on main IGN from module
Hold button on the module and reinstall Main IGN Harness or fuse on main IGN from module
Lights flash red then ( keep holding till green for hard reset) release the button lights will go off.
    Proceed to programming.

Turn the Ignition to the ON position
Wait, the LED will go solid GREEN for 2 seconds then off.
    Turn key to OFF position.
Start the vehicle with key normally.
Ensure emergency brake is off, a/c is off.
    Wait 15 seconds.
Press and hold the brake pedal.
Press and RELEASE the module programming button.
    RELEASE the brake pedal.
    Watch Module.
    It will go solid RED
    Flash GREEN then go off.

I usually try to update these things, but guess I never did. The brake adapter was the missing link in my case.

What is odd though...sometimes double pressing the button doesn't unlock the truck. It will make the single beep like it is locking, but doesn't lock it either. Sometimes it works flawlessly. I'm wondering if the battery in the remote is going bad. I have not yet contacted 12volt.solutions yet because I haven't fully identified the pattern.
