128k Miles and losing its mind

Greetings all, was coming home today when my truck decided to have an anxiety attack.

Still in the process of using the search bar to figure out what may be wrong, until then enjoy the fireworks on the gauge cluster!

A little background: 2016 DCSB OR 128k Miles, only mods to the truck are an aftermarket Android head unit with a CAN bus connection (more on CAN) and LED dome lights.

Sensing electrical/sensor issues for obvious reasons, will do further research. Way past warranty, was considering upgrading before this happened...not so sure after reading some posts.

Some codes pulled off of bluetooth OBD reader on mobile app are attached.

    Link to vid: http://youtu.be/ihdubMcTbaQ

Very sorry for poor filming, what we're seeing here is a cycle of the screens:

    Check Brake System

Crawl Not Available Check System Operation Condition (6spd w/o crawl mode)

    Check Vehicle Stability Control

There was a flash of Brake Override Malfunction - Contact Dealer at first but couldn't get it on video.

Turned the truck off and it went away, found error codes below, this was at about 30mph, brakes and acceleration worked fine, seemed to not be in limp mode (b/c of manual tranny?) like some others trucks.

Believe some codes have to do with the CAN bus and being the radio is plugged inline to it I venture it could be part of the issue, brakes also could use a tuneup. Not condemning anything just thought it'd be helpful for those who are under 100k.

Warranty out, dealer provides me with sympathy chuckles when I visit!

So you're saying it stopped after you cycled the ignition?

Warranty or not, trouble codes like that would have me running to the dealer to at least figure out what it could be.

Yeah after I cycled the ignition in the driveway it started up and ran fine with no lights or errors. I agree with you, trying to get it in for a service asap. ABS light has come on in the past but went away and never seen anything this frantic in a vehicle before, it was cycling screens faster before filming.

Will do so next chance, raining something awful here so I'll try to avoid adding water to the equation for now!

I'd would FOR SURE pull the head unit. Especially if it's a cheaper unit. Canbus is wicked complex and removing the HU goes a long way towards finding out the culprit.

As many as I can fabricate
U0100 is monitored when the ignition is on, battery voltage is at a certain level and other key modules are configured correctly.
U0073 can pop up intermittently, or it can result from a dead battery.

Check your charging system, battery voltage running and off. Check all the grounds. There may be in excess of 12-14 on the truck, I don't know how many but check them all. Grounds are attached, many years ago, over paint, and now years later probably worse. Grounds are responsible for many sensor faults. You have to have absolute connectivity and continuity to chase a code. Snowflake washers are your friend. We installed hundreds at Kia to solve electrical issues. This is free maintenance basically.

Did you recently install your head unit (or anything else)?

Have you had your crankshaft position sensor replaced?

Another vote for battery... or some aftermarket wiring issue.

Appreciate you all getting back to me! Big +1 on the grounds because my factory radio shit the bed 5k past warranty (beyond infuriated) and I had a suspicion it was a bad ground or the fact that the air vents are right next to the unit with little to no cooling inside to prevent damage. Will dust off the ol' Fluke soon.

I've had the aftermarket radio in for about 15k with little to no issues, all properly soldered harness connections so no hand splicing done by myself, although capable. As I said I had a feeling the Canbus decoder may have interfered as it was more or less rigged up when it came to the software (using a different models settings etc.) to get it to work. Nothing else installed recently, to my knowledge no CPS replacement however with the accidents I can't be sure right now. Same story with the battery 99% sure it's original though, will be the next thing replaced most likely.

Sincerely appreciate the genuine replies... Unlike TW I've met aggravating resistance from others on many a forum. Was hoping my high mileage and immense frustration would act as a pioneer of issues and help others in the future.

No Clazzios here btw haha, if that were true about the zipper I think I'd kick myself in the ass figuring that one out!

Your canbus communication system is going crazy.
Have you plugged anything into the OBDII/CAN jack ?
Just read you installed head unit. Disconnect the canbus jack.

You are getting an E on the temp cluster display. That tells me canbus pblm.

Definitely getting warmer, planning to yank that decoder out tomorrow. I have not plugged anything in other than an ELM327 Bluetooth reader for the phone app Carista. I don't leave it in either only to scan codes. Interesting the temp gauge is what led you to that thought, sounds like proper insight to me!

I know on aftermarket Pioneer heads there is a setting in the radio that can affect other canbus interfaces. I had that issue with a scangauge on a truck and the people at scangauge new it was the radio setting interfering with their unit. Been so long now I don't remember the specifics of what page the setting was on in the radio.
    Pioneer head ?

Possibly an override function of some sort... Might have seen similar. Not Pioneer but a China-made Android unit that I spent a long time researching, the branding escapes me but it was the well-supported hidden gem of the bunch at the time. I knew there would be quirks but never like this. Could be a few issues (Batt., Radio, CPS) doing the tango.
